Many victims were feared trapped when a two-storey building still under construction, housing traders and shop owners, collapsed at the Ekeoyibo Market, Amawbia in the Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State on Thursday.


The Court of Appeal, Abuja division, on Thursday, dismissed the ex parte order issued on May 10, 2024, by the Rivers State High Court, Port Harcourt, which barred Martin Amaewhule from parading himself as the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

 A Lagos State High Court in Ikeja on Thursday convicted and sentenced a commercial bus driver, Elijah Shokoya, to 12 years imprisonment for killing an officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency. Justice Oyindamola Ogala sentenced Shokoya after finding him guilty of the offence of manslaughter.

 A Bayelsa High Court sitting in Ogbia Town, Ogbia Local Government Area of the state has sentenced four kidnappers to 40 years each, amounting to 160 years. The four men had kidnapped the former Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Federal Otokito, on January 20, 2022, and demanded ransom payment.

 The Kano State Police Command has arrested 149 suspects, including two suspected kidnappers who have been operating in Zamfara and other neighbouring states. The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, made the disclosure while parading the suspects shortly after addressing a news conference at its headquarters, Bompai Kano, on Thursday.

 A Federal High Court in Abuja has held that the February 22 governorship primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, which produced Asue Ighodalo is invalid. Justice Inyang Ekwo held that the PDP’s decision to exclude 378 elected ward delegates from participating in the election was a violation of Article 50(3) of the party’s constitution.

 The federal government yesterday raised the alarm over possible severe flooding beginning from the end of this month, saying 18 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are likely to be adversely affected. The government also warned that prolonged flooding incidents might escalate the cholera incidents currently ravaging some states.

Chairman of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has said the Nigerian economy can be turned around in a few months. Addressing State House Correspondents after the inauguration of the Presidential Economic Coordination Council (PECC) by President Bola Tinubu, Dangote said the public and private sectors would work together to revamp the economy.

 Legal representatives of the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, in the ongoing Kano emirate tussle have withdrawn their services in the case before the State High Court. The action by the legal representatives is to show their dissatisfaction on a ruling earlier by the court not granting stay of proceedings in the matter.

Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Uba Sani has said he will comply fully with the judgement of the court in restoring the Chief of Piriga Chiefdom, in Lere LGA, His Royal Highness, Jonathan Zamuna, back to his stool.
Governor Sani stated this while meeting with Kaduna State Council of Chiefs to rub minds on development and security issues, with a view to forging a united and coordinated approach.
The Governor, who stated this on his verified Facebook page, noted that it was imperative to effectively involve “our citizens in the decision making processes.”

  2. Bad things can follow some of these markets. If not fires, then collapse or other calamities. Those ppl dabbling in all thess diabolical thiings need to stop, it only bringing eventual destruction and not profits and getting innocent ppl caught up in your mess.

    So Sunak was just side entertainment all this time. Interesting.
