The four months’ respite enjoyed by the people of Garam, a community in Niger State, was interrupted on Saturday morning when bandits attacked the community, kidnapping a pregnant woman and four other persons. A resident of the community told journalists that the bandits arrived in the community through the bush path around 3 am on Saturday, and went to the house of the victims to kidnap them.

The special anti-kidnapping operatives of the Delta State Police Command deployed to the Ughelli axis have neutralised a suspected kidnapper in a gun duel during which three others were arrested and are presently in police custody. The Command said one AK-49 rifle was recovered by the police team from the hideouts of the hoodlums.

The Bauchi State Police Command has said that no less than 2,077 suspects were arrested in connection to various crimes committed within and outside the state within one year, between July 2023 and July 2024.
