LP's Peter Obi Sues Presidential Aide Onanuga And Demands For N5bn And Apology

Mr Peter Obi, the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, has given Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to the President, a 72-hour ultimatum to pay N5bn as damages and publish a public apology in four national newspapers for defamation and libel.

This demand comes after Mr. Onanuga linked Mr. Obi to a planned mass protest, alleging that Peter Obi’s supporters were the ones planning mayhem in Nigeria. Obi’s legal counsel, Chief Alex Ejesieme, SAN stated that the allegation maligned Obi’s hard-earned reputation and made him look like a man who indulges in violence.
Obi’s counsel demands that Mr. Onanuga retract his statement and tender an unreserved apology within 72 hours of receipt of their letter, in not less than 4 National Dailies:( Vanguard, THISDAY, Punch, and the Cable, including Mr. Onanuga’s verified Twitter handle) If these demands are not met, Obi’s legal team s threatened to take legal action against Mr. Onanuga for defamation and libel.

  1. It is well with this country. The truth is blaring and yet each time from party supporters what we get them turning blind eye based on being loyalist except they are not in government. Each region supporting their own yet the massive are suffering.

  2. When they stole the election from him, he didn't incite a protest. Now that those who stole the election has shown the masses their true colour and the masses want to protest, they just had to look for someone to blame. Obi, the man of the people, sue them till thy kingdom come, we are solidly behind you. When they increased the fuel price without any measures to cushion the effect, them no know abi.

  3. Long time coming...The gentility strides of the tiger does not mean weakness...I dunno why a government adviser should be involved in careless talks to a sitting president, is this all his job description for his position?

  4. Bayo used to be a critical thinker and a well organized journalist. Whatever happened to him did him great damage and disservice. This is why I keep saying, you don't say a man is successful until you see his end.

Let me borrow the words of the Ovation magazine boss ''The people of Nigeria have never had things so bad and you're both defending a profligate government with untenable economic hocus pocus...''

    2. They will always blame him for their failure to rule the nation as they promised before election! If tinubu coughs, na Obi cause am, if he falls off the stairs, Obi cause am! If his cabinet steals or loot funds, Obi is in trouble!

Protest has been announced, Obi is responsible for that, as if Obi is responsible for their incompetence all this while.

The wicked runs when no one is pursuing them.

  7. Must they link the protest to their opponent? Isn't it glaring that the masses are suffering due to hike in almost everything. I think our government need to wake up to their responsibilities.

  10. The masses are dying of starvation while the government spends lavishly yet Peter Obi is responsible for the planned protest. They better take responsibility for their failure and ease the suffering of Nigerians.

  11. I must say that these dirty Nigeria politicians do know how to play their games.
They also know how to jam the heads of the masses together and cause division.
So the hike in prices of things and hunger in the country, right now, is it only the obedient that are suffering it?
From what I even hear, most obedient don't even want to participate, because when they were warning..., the other parties turned it to tribal war.
Now again these people have come up with this division strategy. If we the masses do not unite in one voice, how can we salvage our nation?
I just pray this is nipped in the bud before it becomes a tribal, party or religious war.

  14. This legal suit is dead on arrival. Peter Obi supporter, does not mean Peter Obi is aware or support the person action. What Bayo would do is to arrange for 10 young boys, pay them and present them in court. The boys would claim to love and support Peter Obi. The boys will also claim to support a peaceful protest against the government.
With this Bayo is free and the boys are free as they said they only supports PEACEFUL protest against government, no violent protests.
It is a shame that a SAN would take a brief like this.

    1. Will the boys say that Peter Obi asked/hired them to protest? It seems you don't know it's a crime to lie under oath. If they don't produce evidence of Obi orchestrating the protest, they too will be in deep soup.

  17. With everything going on in the country Nigerians should be protesting everyday. APC brought nothing but hardship to Nigerians while they recklessly spend our common wealth. Tinubu government promised nothing and is delivering nothing. We never had it this bad. This man single handedly took us 100yrs back .. very ruthless and incompetent fellow
