CHRONICLE OF A MARRIED MAN

When my wife was sick recently, so I did market run.

It was ages since I went to the market. I did it last when we had our first child newly. The remaining deliveries, there were people around to do it. My wife rarely falls sick and even on occasions when she did, there was enough raw food in the house to cook.Among the things I went to buy was Titus fish (Mackerel) or according to SDK Lizard fish. Lol.

As a bachelor, I used to cook very well, I even worked as a chef at a point, so I know things.
Getting to the fish seller, she brought out the supposed Titus fish. It was then that I discovered that market women sell this Titus look-alike as the original Titus fish to people who don't know the difference.
She brought them out, gave me the price (very high). I told her I needed original Titus fish and not the one she brought out. She was shocked to know that as a man, I knew the difference.
She then told me that she didn't have the number 1 and that the one in front of me was number 2. She went on to say that Titus number 2 is as sweet as Titus number 1 and that there is number 3 and 4 which are not sweet.
I couldn't hold the laughter as I left her to search for the real deal.
That fish she showed me was Kampala (in local palance). It looks similar to Titus but not Titus.
Titus has a clear and shiny white belly while the back has deep black stripes. The one she showed me had spots on its belly and the stripes on its back were dots.
Bvs, pls which one is number 3 and number 4? how do I spot those ones? I want to start going to the market regularly now, like once in two months.

  10. The description you gave makes me wonder if the original Titus fish is a relative to the shark.

I am from a different part of the world so I don’t know anything about fish that are native to Nigeria. All I know is that with the changing weather new fish that were never seen before will be showing up in different waters. Test any unfamiliar fish well before preparing. If a cat or dog won’t eat it then you shouldn’t either.

    1. Nk baby panla that is tasteless, you've to use all the spices to make it sweet.
Titus any day anytime but not the kampala.

  12. There is really no fake or original. The fishes are different species of the same fish found in different oceans. The major difference is that one set of the same fish is either caught free ranging or farm bred in the ocean. Generally the free range of any specie of the fish will taste different from the farm fed.
