Have you ever f
aced conspiracy and rejection in an office environment due to religion? Has your responsibilities been pushed to a junior colleague and you are sidelined due to religious reasons. What process or procedures did you take to handle it without escalating the issue.

He boasted that I might have the knowledge and qualifications but he has the connections and decides what happens and who does what. Please don't tell me to report officially because the HR director is his friend....

Ah, then just resign for yourpeace of mind andlook for another Job

  1. Time up on the job!
But, if it's a dependable job, then in all humility, go and apologize.

He that must catch a monkey must behave like one.

Have you also gone on the altar of prayer? Prayer works wonder.

  2. Take it to your God and let the battle be fought in the realms for you. That really is the only way, especially if religion is the cause for the discrimination.

Find ways to build up your mental, emotional and spiritual strength. Find an ally if there is any there. But take very good care of your mental health, you need strength to get through it. Make your home a sanctuary and nurture the good relationships you have away from work, these will nourish you when the battle gets hot. Do good in all things and in all ways, so God will see you as worthy and blameless. Do not spend any excess thought energy on these ppl. The more you think about them the more power they will get. Remind yourself over and over again that they are nothing to you. All the best!

  3. Dear Gentle Poster, Sorry about your ordeal. It is sad that an HR professional is aware and does not intervene. It is obvious you are working in a toxic work environment. Here are a few steps to take

    (1) Plan your exit NOW! Your network is your net worth...Speak with former work colleagues or recruiters or HR professionals to help with referrals...Referrals remains the fastest and quickest way to get a new job followed by normal job applications via emails or websites. Either way, start applying for new jobs.

    (2) I always maintain to people; no one at work is your friends...It's all about power tussle and politics...However office politics is something you cannot avoid; you need tact to play it in your favour.

    (3) Don't engage in any form of gossips either within your departments/colleagues in the office. No matter how sweet it is to discuss...Don't speak bad about your Oga and the HR Director.

    (4) Continue doing your job and use this as a learning curve for your next job. Trust me what you are experiencing now will come handy in your career journey.

    (5) Before you set foot in another job, carry out your background check e.g Glassdoor reviews (this has helped me in making a new job acceptance decision), you can smartly ask employees (not HR) in the organization what the work culture is like via Linkedin or email.

    (6) If you feel you can't stand the heat, kindly exit honourably with your head held high and your mental health intact.

    All the best

  5. Don’t resign yet oh because the street is hard but maybe you can put urself back on the market. I also believe you should report to ur boss whether he is his friend or not for the sake of documentation. It won’t hurt to also have proof of u reporting or of ur encounters with such person. Maybe a coded recording of the exchange may help

  9. Why not confront him politely and then record everything he said as evidence against him..
Then send the evidence to the HR threatening to sue... Do this when it's only getting out of hands..

Firstly try to talk to him and apologize if u have unknowingly offended him...
    Start looking for another job..

    1. This actually could work if it is played openly in the HR office so others can hear it too, not just the director. That way the director is forced to do the right thing because everyone else heard the recording.

    2. Which religion is that?
I hope you didn't draw the first blood?
If your hand are clean, wake up by 12 midnight and call on God.....
Ask God to search your heart and judge accordingly, use Psalms 35 and 91!
Anywhere they put my enemies pit the man's name there then watch God fight
If your hands are not pure don't say this prayers

    3. Confrontation can cause more problems after initial solution. Don't confront him since he is your superior just be tactical and never engage in gossip no matter how enticing always find ways stay silent. In your closed room na fire prayer you dey fire them. OH Lord Behold thier threatening and silence them na so God go give them work one by one them no go get your time, Go to youtube Baba Olukoya of Mfm prayers are there always, different types, you go press play and follow the pattern. You will come back and share your testimony in Jeuss name Amen

  11. This might not be the exact same scenario, but it could help......

I once had issues with a line manager in my office, because I refused to give out a sale that i worked really hard for, the customer came in when I was on evening shift, and I i attended to him, he wasn't a new customer, however, the staff that initially sold to him had already left the system, so I was free to take the sale. She wanted me to give the sale to a favourite of her's, but I stood my ground and refused this time, because that wasn't the first time she had requested such.
After the incident, she made my life hell in the office, and recruited people to join her, in fact one ceci had an issue, but she suggested to our head of sales that I should be let go, however that one didn't listen to her.

What I did to survive in that toxic environment was to pray like never before, and just went about my business, tbh, God heard me, that branch was closed and we were all transferred to different branches, that was how I had my peace.

Truth is , in situations like this, if you can't leave, pray, that's the only solution, it sounds simple, but when you're sure your conscience is clear you haven't done anything to hurt anyone, and you're doing your work diligently, just pray, it works.

  13. Dont resign yet oo. Just try and manage the situation by being respectful to him till you get a new job. Put it in your prayers. To be in the labour market for a very good job, you need to know who knows somebody that knows somebody before you are connected. Sometimes such people who tend to display such character exits the company unexpectedly.

  16. When Bible says the heart of man is desperately wicked, it didn't lie. If not, why do some people derive Joy from hurting others?
Keep your cool for now while looking for something else.... Him nor be your God oh

  17. It's called work place politics. Continue to search for a better job if the environment is toxic.

  18. Don’t resign but be looking for another job
    Also don’t do anything
Let him do what he said he can do and you can react

If you report him now he’ll just deny anyway so what’s the point
Try to avoid him and do your work well

Haaa! If the HR Director is his friend then he is likely to have his way in the issue, so just prepare your mind that you may have to leave that job soon. Infact you should have already started looking for another job by now.
    That been said, I
think you should still make a formal report.
Ensure you follow the correct procedure of your organization and file your complaint officially. Pray very well about it. You never can tell what can happen. Afterall, the HR director also has his own supervisor who might intervene. The outcome may shock you.
Even if the outcome is not favourable for you, you will know that you fought a good fight and you are already prepared for it, so you are still good.
    I wish you the best.

  20. Toxic work environment can be draining I must say. You wake up in the morning and will be discouraged to go to work.
Until you get another job try to be on your own lane and ignore whoever is out to make things difficult for you.

  26. What a friend we have in Jesus
All our sins and griefs to bear
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit
O what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer

    Have we trials and temptations?
    Is there trouble anywhere?
    We should never be discouraged
Take it to the Lord in prayer
Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
    Jesus knows our every weakness
Take it to the Lord in prayer

TAKE IT TO GOD IN PRAYER, DEAR POSTER.
