President Tinubu Gives 48-hour Ultimatum For New Minimum Wage

Nigeria's Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris has revealed that President Bola Tinubu has given the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, a 48-hour ultimatum to come up with the cost implications on the new minimum wage.

Idris stated this while briefing State House Correspondents after a meeting the negotiation team had with the President at Aso Rock.

He said: “All parties to the negotiation of the new minimum wage would work together with the organised labour to present a new minimum wage for Nigerians in one week.
“All of us will work together assiduously within the next one week to ensure that we have a new wage for Nigeria that is acceptable, sustainable and also realistic.”

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and Trade Union Congress, TUC, have called off the strike which began on Monday for one week, to enable further negotiations with the Federal Government.

  2. You are doing well sir.

Sincerely, the new minimum wage proposed by NLC will have negative effect on the economy.

Instead of that amount, they should fight for better governance .

I won't say much.Only if you are an economist, that's when you will understand me better.

    1. What kind of negative effects?? FG should have known better before they approved that.

    2. And you think Labour wants FG to pay that? They just want the government to meet them somewhere in-between... It's like haggling in the market place.

    3. We already know that, those of us not working with the government will suffer it the more. We have a lot of private businesses, some are still paid below 30 k in the private sector. Cost of things will increase more with this wage increase. House rent, school fees and market price will be hyped.

    5. 14:16, it will increase more, that's the difference. Many private workers whose salaries are not increased will suffer for it.
