Nigerian Govt Raises Alarm Over Money Laundering Drug Trafficking Via Private Aircrafts

The Federal Government Of Nigeria has raised alarm, alleging that some prominent Nigerians are using private aircraft for money laundering, drug trafficking and other illegal practices.

Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development raised the flag on Thursday during the inauguration of a “Task Force on Illegal Private Charter Operations and Related Matters” in Abuja.

The Minister lamented that the country is losing billions of dollars to the activities of the money launderers and drug dealers.

According to the Minister, the unfortunate development has raised security and safety concerns, stressing that the operations of private aircraft owners are not properly checked.
Keyamo stated that the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu recently alerted the ministry of some of the sharp practices going on among the private aircraft owners.

He noted that such practices undermine the efforts of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA and other regulatory bodies.
“These illicit activities have not only resulted in significant financial losses to the Federal Government, but have also raised security and safety concerns as the operations of private aircraft owners have remained largely unchecked and unregulated.

“This has also resulted in using these private aircraft for other illegal activities. Last week, the National Security Adviser wrote to us, alerting us of the spike in money laundering, drug-trafficking and other illegal activities through the use of private aircraft in the country”, Keyamo added.

  1. If I raise an alarm, I expect the government to address my cause for concern. If the government is now raising an alarm, who does it expect to come to its aid? Me?

Of what use are all the salary collecting government agencies tasked with handling such matters the first place?

    2. I had the same thought ha kwesịrị ịkpachara anya, all eyes are on them now with their loud party. They should move their wedding to the US; otherwise, a trap is coming for these people if they display that money-spending lifestyle again. 100-dollar bills were spent like pure water when Nigeria was in pain. Nigeria is now classified as upper and lower class, no middle class. When last did some musicians release songs that they had bundles of 100 dollar bills to spend? It is well ọ dị mma

  7. I am surprise the minister is saying this as if its a new thing. most of the private jets are up for rent simple the cost of maintaining them is very HIGH. from parking charges, repairs, pilot fee etc. its not like a car you can park at home. He should paint it as if its a new thing, its always been like that, no be today
