Man Arrested After He Kidnapped Brothers Son And Demanded 5 Million In Bitcoin As Ransom

Delta State Police has arrested a man identified as Jerry Lawrence, alongside his 20-year-old nephew Nelson after they staged a self kidnap and went on to demand the sum of N50 Million ransom, which would be paid in Bitcoin from Nelson's father.

This was made known by the Delta State Police Spokesperson Bright Edafe in a statement issued on his X page on Thursday, June 13th.
One of the suspects, Jerry Lawrence said he told his nephew, Nelson to come to his house at Warri in the guise that he would gift him a PS4.
After Nelson came, he told him about his financial struggle and later convinced him to stage a fake kidnap so as to collect a 50 million Naira ransom from Nelson's father.
The second suspect, Nelson on his own part gabe the same account but revealed that though his father paid 5 Million naira in Bitcoin, Jerry had spent 2 million naira out of it without giving him a dime.One of the suspects, Jerry Lawrence was quoted saying;
"My name is Jerry Lawrence and am here for the case of self kidnap.
The person standing by my side is my nephew.
I used to live with his Dad, and his father is my uncle
I summoned him from Abraka to come where he schools to come visit me in Warri that I have a PlayStation 4 for him
So When he came, I confided in him that I was in financial troubles and that we could actually get money from daddy by faking a kidnap to which he agreed.
And then we chained him in my apartment and blindfolded him and then sent a video to his parents demanding the sum of N50m to which they eventually paid N5m
I've used N2m from it but I still have N3m in my wallet.
So on Saturday when the heat was becoming too much, I knew the police was tracking down on us because the father would actually send messages from the department to the family Whatsapp group and since am a member, I was seeing everything so I knew the arrest was getting close so I had to send him to calabar, I've lived with them for over 11 years now, the father is more like my cousin but because of the age difference, I call him my uncle".
