On Thursday June 13, 2024, Ghana power grid operator sent out a circular and warned of power cuts that will last for another three weeks following a shortage in gas supply for power generation from Nigeria. The operator, the Electricity Company of Ghana, said the supply interruption was due to maintenance works at the unnamed Nigerian gas supplier.

Maybe it's time to love our neighbors as ourselves and not more than ourselves.
ReplyDeleteCompare the electricity tariffs and distribution strucure of Nigeria and Ghana and you'll realise why it makes more sense for your country to sell gas to Ghana than to waste it on over subsidised power here.
ReplyDeleteGhana is buying gas and as a result, Nigeria doesn't have to borrow as much or have a worse forex conversion rate.
Nigerians ought to realise that good things are expensive. You cannot expect to pay around 30 kobo for every 1 naira of light supplied and still think that the dated infrastructure can carry on regarding generation and distribution. You cannot expect the least productive strata to be given the limited power available while the deeper pockets are frustrated out of the grid and into private solar plants in the case of residential use or out of the country to get steady power that is profitably priced, in the case of industry.
