A Kano State High Court presided over by Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu, on Monday, May 27,2024 ordered the commissioner of police in Kano to immediately evacuate Aminu Bayero from the Nasarawa palace where he was staying. The presiding judge gave the order upon hearing of ex parte application by counsel to the Applicants, Barrister Ibrahim Isa Wangida, dated May, 27 2024.


 The popular Banex Plaza in Abuja’s Wuse 2 neighbourhood which was closed for more than a week by the Nigerian Army has been reopened. Eyewitness reports revealed that the plaza was reopened on Monday afternoon.

 The Kogi Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which sat in Abuja, has upheld the victory of Usman Ododo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 11 governorship election in Kogi State. The three-member tribunal led by Ado Birnin-Kudu held that the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and its governorship candidate, Murtala Ajaka failed to prove their allegations that the election was marred by irregularities.

 The federal government on Monday announced the indefinite suspension of the Air Nigeria Airline project. Minister of Aviation and Aerospace, Festus Keyamo, disclosed this at the ministerial briefing to celebrate the first year of the Tinubu administration.

 A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit filed by the impeached deputy governor of Edo State, Phillip Shuaibu, seeking the nullification of the February 22 governorship primary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. In a judgment delivered yesterday, Justice James Omotosho held that Shuaibu lacked the locus standi to have challenged the outcome of primary.

 Barring the unforeseen, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will attend a joint sitting of the Senate and House of Representatives in Abuja. The session at the House of Representatives Chamber in the National Assembly, is to mark 25 years of unbroken democracy.

. The naira appreciated 1,339.33/$ at the close of trading on the official window on Monday, gaining 9.68 per cent over Friday’s 1,482.81/$. According to FMDQ data, which houses the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market, the daily turnover dropped to $180.80m from $556.25m on Friday, indicating a 67.50 per cent decline.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Calabar Zone, has expressed reservations about the Federal Government’s student loan, describing it as a ploy to enslave Nigerian students and make them remain indebted to the country forever. The Federal Government student loan officially came on stream last Friday when the portal for loan applications opened.

. An Ekiti State High Court, Ado Ekiti Division has sentenced 29-year-old Adedayo Olawole to death by hanging for the murder of one Chukwudi Joseph. The court also sentenced him to seven years imprisonment for conspiracy.

 The Rivers State Police Command said its men have arrested 13 persons, including four soldiers for alleged armed robbery, hijacking of food trucks and diverting them to other locations. The police said among those also arrested in the criminal act was a member of the syndicate and operative of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps.

Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled the trial of Bello Bodejo, leader of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, for May 29.
This decision comes after the dismissal of Bodejo’s application for bail.
Bodejo, who faces terrorism-related charges, was absent at the previous court session, causing a delay in the trial’s commencement.
