  1. I made pap(yellow corn, millet and guinea corn)that was supposed to last my baby for three months but it's so filled with sand and I don't know how it happened. I washed it thoroughly myself before grinding it.
Pls how do I remove or reduce the sand.
    thanks.

    1. You didn't sieve the sand from the grains very well. Next time, when you soak it, wash it after 3 days by sieving( scoop small grains from the water, continue till the last scoop), re-soak, after which you wash like three times the very day you want to grind. It requires enough water.

Then I hope you were there when it was being grinded, if you were there that means you didn't sieve it well. You will see the sand down the container. Pls, don't give your baby that pap full of sand, try and make another one.

    2. The grains has already been grinded, it will be quite hard o
Try this method, when you want to make the pap, after mixing the pap with water, seive it through that fine cloth that is used to drain water from pap or fufu, or you use that seive they use to filter elubo or dried grinded grains the reason is that the holes are very tiny so the stones or sand would not be able to pass through only liquid. Then you add your hot water to make the pap and check if the sand has reduce.
      I hope this works.

      Delete
    3. Try sieving it again with a very fine mesh, the one made with chiffon cloth, but if it remains same, then you will need to throw it away.

      Delete
    4. I'd advice you throw it away and do another one if you can please. When it comes to children, personally, I don't compromise.

    5. Hi;just for next time.

If you tied the sieve well to the bucket before sieving the grinded Pap;there is no how on earth sand would enter while sieving..

Also check that the sieve has no tiny opening;or just buy another sieve to avoid stories next time..

Also after sieving and the pap settles down;be careful while pouring into the bag;put it in a tray(or any clean surface) so dirt won't fly in as you are pouring the filter d pap.

      Hope this helps.

    6. Maybe a child or someone poured sand after grinding it?
i don't think you can take off the sand from it except you try to take the up and dispose the down. I am not sure this will sort out all the sand.

    7. I didn't go to grind it myself. we're suspecting the grinding machine. This is my second time of doing it, same corns, same method, same filter materials (chiffon and the small sieve). But it was done by my mum then.
There's enough water and I personally rinse it like 5 times everyday for the 3 days it was soaked it.
I try the method of resieving before making but I still taste small sand.
Thank you WINNER, YES I AM, Iva, Dainty T, anonymous and martins. I do appreciate.
I think the best thing is to make fresh one.

      Just a suggestion

You can still keep the pap but anytime you want to make it, dissolve the pap in water and seive it. The sand or particules should settle before you pour into another bowl. Then make your pap. Using this method, you'd have done away with the sand by over 95% before pouring in your hot water.

      I hope this helps too.

      Delete
    9. When you mix the one you want to make, shake it and pour it into another bowl slowly and pour away the bottom. The sand would have settled at the bottom. You know how we used sieve Sandy Nigerian rice in the 90s, that's it

      Delete
    10. The sand may be a bit denser than the ground corn, even if we were to try using the laws of physics I don’t think you have the apparatus at home to go that route. You just have to cut your losses and take better care next time or use store bought packaged cornmeal in the future if you do not want to risk it again.

  2. Goodafternoon everyone,please I need your advice.
I was given a grant of 1million for foodstuff business since January, most of the shops I see around, someone is already selling food stuff there and the people that gave me the money are beginning to think I am not serious.
so this morning I am thinking,if selling only packed foods like noodles, spaghetti, sugar, seasoning and flour will bring in gain.
    thank you all.

    1. Yes there is profit in it if you are selling in carton;probably add few bottle water to it and with time;you add pet drinks.

You would be seeing money everyday by Gods grace;with time as capital increase, you increase quantity..

      Wish you all the best.

      @MARTINS

    2. People eat and would continue to eat.
Start the foodstuffs business because that is one of the business that is moving now, then add the packed food like noodles and provision and sell in wholesales to attract customers.

      Delete
    3. I'm into this bussiness too. For now I will advise you to hold on because the prices are not stable We can't even restock now. 1million no go do you to get much profit oo if you are selling in packs expect you are selling as a retailer"maybe"

2.location is very important, check for a store where, others sell different things. Cause na turn off we dey use sell pack foods, expect the price hike suddenly when you still get that stock with you
Note: For wholesales the higher the quantity the higher the profit#200/#300 ontop one carton.

      Delete
    4. You can't go wrong with selling what you just mentioned. Though the greater risk is that you had no plan for the money and will likely not maximize it to the fullest.

While a million naira not be enough to get you those items you mentioned at factory prices, you can start as a sub-dealer.

Sugar and flour should be a no for now(prices too expensive). Noodles and seasoning should get you rolling nicely so you learn the steps in the trade and also ensuring a return on your investment. Do not be in a rush. You need to do your background investigation well. Be sure before you pay for any supplies.

I believe you can do this. I'll be rooting for you. Goodluck.

      Except*

You can go for the packed foods you mentioned but it should be in a busy location where you sell them off fast. If they stay long in the store, they can get damaged or lose their quality or expire, leading to loss.

  7. Hello BVs, I recently had a baby and I'm having trouble with lactation. I have taken fresh palmwine, watery pap, all types of kunu, tea, pepper soup, pap made with tamarind and nothing worked. Please is there a solution? I've been giving him formula , hmmmm this boy can eat ooo. Thanks, I await your responses/inputs.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Some mothers do not lactate no matter how much they try,if that's your case,May God continue to provide money for formula.

      Delete
    2. I'm going to give you this very simple advice I'm using with my second child, he turned 4 months a few days ago, note that I am not in the class of them over producers but I have managed to almost exclusively breastfeed him the past 2+ months.
Keep breastfeeding him frequently, like make sure you empty BOTH breasts every 2 hours. If you can afford it, buy an electric breast pump to support, however, note that even the best breast pumps don't express as effectively as your baby's mouth (provided he has no latch issues).
Secondly, drink lots of fluids, preferably water. Aim for an average of 3 litres per day.
I spent so much money trying to exclusively breastfeed my daughter 4 years ago (had 3 breast pumps, drank pap endlessly, lactation drinks, teas, cookies etc) but was not very successful at it.
I was determined to learn from the experience with my first and this time around went with 'less is more' and I can categorically state that these 2 strategies have been the best so far.
Your body produces milk based on demand and so the more you make demands on it, the more it makes milk, once you drop the number of feed sessions for whatever reason, your body interpreted that as you not needing that quantity it is currently making and drops it further.
Don't mind my long epistle, I'm just so passionate about it considering the pepper breastfeeding showed me, I was just determined to keep at it.

      Delete
    3. Let me also add this to my above comment.
Should you decide to try the method of feeding him from the best every hour or 2, have your formula on hand for the next few days (as it takes about a week or so for you to see a clear increase in supply).
Each time he's hungry, give him the breast, let him suck on it even if he's sucking almost nothing, move him to the other breast and repeat, the plan is to let him empty the breast, then add on formula to whatever he has had from the breast so he doesn't go hungry. Wash, rinse, repeat for the next 10 days and you will most likely see a huge improvement and can then transition him to exclusive breast milk.

      Delete
    4. Pls stick to Dainty's advice, ave bin there she just saved me from typing a long epistle.i used her method and breast fed my two children.good luck.

    5. Brewer’s yeast does aid in lactation but it taste like hell. Drinking some Guinness stout can help too.

      Delete
    6. Dear mothers, some mothers do not lactate, as in no breast milk. In this case, nothing you try will work. Just keep your baby stuff very neat and feed him with baby formula. It is not a crime to be unable to feed your baby with your breast milk.

Is the tradional approach of years back still obtainable? What documents does one need for physical capturing? Any faster State in the South-West?

    1. Online the price is cheaper, you pick any available date and preferred center. On the day of capturing and collection no preferential treatment but just go very early with the required documents.

No more traditional way because it's now computerized, only if you want fast track which most times it doesn't work except the officer handling your passport is an OGA in their office,it's more expensive, even though it's the same process with the person that did it by themselves(online) and there is also preferential treatment if you pay correct money.

I used to sell on Jumia and used my phone for everything and all. If you are based in Lagos, Jumia usually organises physical classes for new sellers in their office in Ikeja, attended few times with even people I referred to Jumia to sell then.

It's an easy process;just invest your time.

Google "Jumia seller centre and how to upload products images", OR
"Vendors hub Jumia product upload";then watch videos and you are good.

Also note that there are picture requirements;so a studio pics with white background for all of your products are best accepted.

    2. My wife then replaced her routine drugs with "pregnant care" as advised by our doctor all through;so ask your doctor and if given the go-ahead;add folic acid to it daily.

Eat no matter how nauseous you feel;also try not to be staying one place all day;exercise no matter how little.

There are fruits you shouldn't take while pregnant;talk to your doctor for more details okay.

Avoid rough gbenshing with your hubby;slow and gradually abeg.

Don't allow anything or anybody stress you;high blood pressure isn't good for you now;your child safety is more important than you proving yourself right or wrong.

Focus on your health;and be selfish with your peace of mind.

Wishing you safe delivery and a smooth pregnancy journey🤝.

    3. You should have been provided with a nutrition guide. Are you taking maternal supplements which includes folic acid?this is important for good development of the fetus.

Eat a variety of foods so that you are getting enough from all food groups. Fruits, vegetables and protein. Better to eat from home where you can account for the hygiene. Wash everything well.

    1. Go to trade fair market;from the Bridge ask the bike to take you to " Old Mandillas";after going there you can also check out "New Mandillas"..

When you are done shopping there;ask them for where they sell bags;na you go tire for designs there.

For wigs;go to Abia Line and follow the straight line inside;that's where your Instagram resellers come to shop and resell.

      Hope this helps.

    1. Eat more of fruits like carrots, mangoes and green leafy Vegetables. Also take your pregnacare conception before pregnancy and start the the real pregnacare when pregnant, alongside the above.

    2. The above is for a hairy and fine skinned baby. For the chubby part, eat proteins and drink plenty bournvita and milk in your third trimester, (8-9months). But prepare for CS too cos you may not be able to give birth by yourself cos of the baby's size.

    3. If you are pregnant now then forget about the hair growth, your hormones will be all over the place.

If you want chubby and cute baby then that is something you have to pray on. God is the master of human design. Take your maternal supplements, eat well and exercise for a healthy pregnancy and baby.

    5. Eat fruits and vegetables and take your routine drugs for a cute baby. A chubby baby at birth is very stressful, you may have a big tear that may not heal on time, you may give birth via CS.
Why not do what I did with all my babies. I give birth to small babies for easy birth, within a few weeks, after eating good food and breastfeeding the babies well, they blow up in size. People will now mistake my one month old baby for a three months old.
What I do is I reduce proteins and carbs from 6months, I drink Lipton tea too but still take my pregnancy drugs and eating of fruits and vegetables. The baby will not be big at birth.

      Safe delivery I wish you
