    1. Where is he going to get more to give? What value are the workers producing? If he signs a higher rate and he can't pay won't the same people complain?

Pay is not pocket money. If you work for or own a private company, you would understand this better. These workers exchanged job security for these kind of outcomes. The governors are laboured with a behemoths of a workforce that are largely unproductive and very difficult to let go. He has to service debt and finance projects in addition to paying pensions and financing or subsidizing healthcare, education and other public needs. In a state like cross river, the oil wells have been lost to rivers and 9 out of 10 of working ages are not paying taxes.

Labour are ones who were shouting production during campaigns. It's a mantra they can imbibe. You cannot be the smallest percentage of the working poor and still be expecting that you be fed fat while being the biggest draw of revenue in the state.

Let labour copy their counterparts in the private sector generate their own income instead of waiting for stipends from Abuja that is borrowing heavily to keep them afloat. Even the states are beholden to private banks for trillions. With all this borrowing, there is automatically less transparency and traceability since the finances are centralised. The bill comes in the form of inflation for everyone, watering down the value of profits and savings.

  2. Even though the money barely enough to cover basic needs in this economy
It is better to pledge and fulfill something small than promise something reasonable and find it difficult to fulfill and sustain.
