Tragedy As 4 Year Old Boy Chokes To Death In Abuja School

A four year old boy choked to death in an Abuja school on Wednesday April 24, 2024 and the school management is doing everything to keep the News off the press....The school is presently closed down until certain measures are put in place and the little boy is buried.....

Insiders say that what happened cannot be blamed totally on the school, but there was nothing put in place to deal with the medical emergency that occurred...

According to the details of how the little boy died...He brought food from home to eat in school and while eating, he chewed on a big piece of meat and as he swallowed or tried to swallow,he began to choke and when the teacher noticed what was happening, help was quickly sought and they did all they could to get the meat out but all their efforts proved abortive and as they rushed him unconcious to the hospital, the Doctor declared him dead on arrival....
The case landed at the Police station and as the dead boys parents cried foul play  a quick look through the schools CCTV showed that the little boy had choked on the meat in his food.
This is really sad and is a wake up call for all parents to watch what they pack for their kids to eat and a wake up call for schools t be better equipped with medical personnel......

May the little boys soul rest in peace.

  1. First aid training is so essential for everyone to learn.

A Heimlich manoeuvre might have helped, same way a CPR might have helped the late actor.

    May God console the parents.

    1. All Nigerians should go and learn first aid. This is an avoidable death. May God console the family and grant them the fortitude to bear this great loss.
I don't know if it's just me but I prefer packing fish (bones removed)or cooked egg for my kids to school. I don't like giving kids meat to eat in my absence.

    2. I slice the meat to tiny bits for my children and they prefer it

    3. Don't think a CPR would have helped the late actor, considering the fact that he was under water for hours.

    4. This is so true. Schools should have all teacher trained in administering first aid. Or at the very least, have a school nurse who knows this life saving measures.
When my son was around this age,I would cut his meat in little bits for his lunch. Even his boiled eggs,I would cut into four pieces cos kids can be funny. May the little boy's soul rest in peace.

  12. Why is a 4 year old eating unsupervised. They should have been someone to ensure the meat and everything is of the right size etc.

    1. Exactly Nigerian schools charges alot but do little for the kids left in their care. I can never let my kids eat at home alone without my supervision so why won't the school do the same?

    2. Continue waiting for school to do everything

When my kids were younger, I cut up their meat in bite sizes

      Gifty

    3. Even children eating supervised, choke in their homes. The parent should have cut it in the right size and every school should have at least a nurse that can perform these types of first aid to avoid this situation

    4. Teachers alone cannot do everything, parents should play their parts too. Cutting the meat to a sizable parts appropriately okay for the boy should be the duty of the parents.

May the little boy's soul rest in peace. This is an avoidable death fa ☹️

    6. You said mother? My neighbour leaves everything for her househelp to do. She goes to work 9am, but will never give her daughter morning bath. It's when the househelp is done with house work around 1 to 2 pm before she gives the baby a good shower. The diaper of the previous night will be on her. Till househelp is done. The child I'm talking about is 14months. So some parents are so lazy to check all those thing. May God have mercy on some parents.

Tips to parents with little children:
When my daughter was little, I cut her meat/fish into tiny pieces, remove any bone from the meat or fish, cut the egg too into smaller pieces. Yam, plantain, potatoes were cut into small cubes(like cube sugar). Fruits were cut into smaller pieces also.

When I worked as a private school year, I used to advise parents on how to package their kids' foods.
May we not bury our children.

    5. I thought every parents knows this, to cut their toddlers food into small bites, debone fish properly, remove pips from fruits, starch should be soft and swallowable.
Are they putting big chunks of food into their plates?

  16. How many schools are equipped for medical emergencies ? Some that claim to have infirmaries employ quack nurses or have none at all.
Food packaging should be age appropriate.
Sometimes nursery pupils have their flasks filled with big chicken laps and you see them struggling with these.

It's just lunch. Keep it simple !
    My condolences to the family.
Rest on , little one !

    1. I was about to say this but didn’t quite have strength to type. Even schools that have infirmaries, employ Auxiliaries or nurses (which may not be a bad thing) but these people may not even know a heimlich or how to do CPR.

The best thing is for schools to give their teachers basic first aid and CPR training every year or every term. And then the common man should also learn these skills too.

Let me go brush up on my infant first aid and cpr because me wey dey talk self, I have been procrastinating.

May God comfort the parents, it’s too painful

  17. So sad. Parents and teachers should try to learn some first aid tips, go on YouTube, we have a lot like how to safe a choking child, how to stop bleeding, treating burn etc. Children should not be given chunk of meat but cut into pieces. Abeg no give pikin 'ishan' too. May God help parents and teachers.

A child that left home hale and hearty. Very painful.
It can happen anywhere, even at home. As I type I don't know what to do when a child is choking. I will go on YouTube and learn.
I believe this is a wake up call to schools and other organizations to train their workers on how to manage small emergencies like this.
May God console his parents and rest his soul.

  25. This just remind me of the tragedy that happened here in my community not up to two weeks now.

The mother left her months old baby with her 14 years old son and went to buy something. The baby started crying and the teenager gave him this ball from roll-on bottle to play with.
The child swallowed it and got choked.
The brother tried to bring out the ball but couldn't.. the mother returned and saw that something's wrong.

Everybody tried to.. but it was unfortunate.

    The baby died!

  27. As far back as 2010 when my niece started school, we were informed that meat and fish are not allowed in both kindergarten and grade schools. The nannies in each class would ask the parents to open their kid's lunchbox so they would inspect if there was meat or fish. If such is found, the parents would be advised to remove and take home or at most pay for lunch at the cafeteria. Years after I got married. I consciously adopted this method and pleaded with my kid's teachers never to give them meat or fish during their class parties.

  28. 🇳🇬 in both public & private sectors, teachers, ismall business workers, traders & ALL health workers should normalize CPR/AED training which includes anti choking methods which by the way is different from the method I learnt in Nigeria. Before my daughter took her first babysitting job, she had to get CPR training at the age of 13 so that if the baby needed help before 911 first responders arrive, she would be able to save the baby.

Most public & private buildings have AEDs which is like the kickstarter to the heart after CPR & has saved millions in the West from untimely death. The sad truth is that the $ embezzled by one senator or governor is enough to put these strategies in place, train secondary school children and above on how to conduct CPR & how to save a choking baby or child or an adult that slumps. I wonder why 🇳🇬 are so docile & nice to their oppressors. I don’t think people know the magnitude of what has been looted by less than 150,000 individuals from 200million people else they will pursue them out of the country.

You do know that property ownership is public information in the US. Why has no NGO gone to the 50 states to get the list of properties purchased with public funds by looters of Nigeria for the last 45 years? How long will we keep running away from the country? I ran but frankly though I’m considered very successful, I miss my country of birth. Our children miss growing up around people that look like them as many the top best to live zip codes are not diverse so you are often the only black family in some neighborhoods. Why is the black man on African soil likely to be so heartless like Yahaya who is just a class rep in a class that has Dino with Ferraris and Porsches, Atiku, Jimoh, Ot$, Elem, Tab/Bat, Fashole, Obian, Akpabi etc! Why would I prepay the school fees of children till 2035 when the masses can barely feed?

Why is every black country so backward including Haiti that is in North America? SA was a first world country when I first visited post apartheid in 1998. It was like being in the then UK! See what Ramaphosa and ANC turned it to, look what is happening in Nigeria, and nearly every African country? It has nothing to do with Race because Obama ruled America for 8 years and is a black man. When we are on our own soil we behave anyhow and cover it with false religiosity! Then birth 5 children that they cannot afford to take care of and end up traumatizing and Parentifying young children with lifetime trauma!

Why do we pick what’s convenient even in religious books? Polygamy is practiced by less than 5% of Saudi adult males! My neighbor is a Pakistani Muslim with Maserati, Tesla and Merc GLK and four children from one wife! The taxi owner that we call who picks us up from the airport always is a Muslim from UAE with one wife and one child. Even Christian’s justify polygamy but it has economic fallouts & makes policy making & wealth creation difficult. Population control is the next problem after corruption in Nigeria. China did it for years, Indians rarely have more than two kids, at most 3! Why are we so smart but allow our brains to go on permanent vacation in things that matter? Seeing people queue again at gas stations and trekking is heartbreaking. Do these politicians not see from their tinted glass windows while driving?

You may never see poverty dele ding on where you live in the US but you will see poverty staring at you as soon as you drive out of the affluent t areas on your way to the airport so they cannot pretend they don’t know! Instead we put pressure on our friends & relatives to help subsidize corruption! College kids here are protesting the war in Israel, that was how we were on campuses back in my time! Students don’t even unite to protest, NLC is dead, there no consumer advocates, why are we so blessed yet insist on not tapping the blessings? Archaeologists say the garden of Eden was located in Africa & the abundance of resources proves them right. Freedom has a price. Slaves who love or tolerate their chains will remain in bondage!
