Celebrity Barman Cubana Chief Priest Granted N10million Bail In Naira Abuse Suit

The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos State has granted businessman and socialite, Cubana Chief Priest, N10 million bail with two sureties in like sum.
During his trial the celebrity bar man had earlier pleaded not guilty to tampering and abusing the naira

he was arraigned before Justice Kehinde Ogundare on three counts of spraying and tampering with Naira notes during a social event at Eko hotel in Lagos.
When the case was called on Wednesday, Mrs Bilikisu Buhari appeared for the prosecution while Mr Chikaosolu Ojukwu, SAN, announced appearance for the defendant.
The defence counsel then first informed the court of a preliminary objection challenging the courts jurisdiction as well as a bail application filed on behalf of the defendant.
He informed the court that the prosecution was not opposed to same.
After the charge was read to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
In moving the bail application of the defendant, his counsel urged the court to grant him bail on liberal terms.
He told the court that the defendant was admitted by the prosecution following his health condition, adding that due to his weight, the defendant suffers palpitation.

Besides, he told the court that the offence with which the defendant is charged is a misdemeanor and that the prescribed punishment ranges from a fine of N50,000 or an imprisonment term of six months.
He urged the court to grant bail on very liberal terms to the defendant as he is a first offender with no past criminal records.
His counsel also informed the court that the defendant is an employer of labour with over 1000 employees on his payroll, who are dependent on their jobs.
He, consequently, urged the court to grant his application as moved.
In response, the prosecutor said she will leave the issue of bail to the discretion of the court.

  1. 10m naira???? Is this a case of robbery or murder or fraud? If one talks now, they will say it’s because one is unpatriotic. Na them know. Country that operates like they have no rules or guidelines for things like this.

    2. You actually don't pay the money. You just enter into a bond for that amount and if you decide to jump your bail, then you will forfeit the sum of 10 million. As long as he meets other bail condition ( if any) he is free to go without dropping a dime.

    3. Anon 15:33 you either pay the 10m and get it back after trial

or you pay a bond company to put up bond for you. That company will charge a fee. You will not get the fee back if you use the second option

The speed with which he was released and the fact that he can actually afford 10m leads me to think he took the first option

    4. Look up bail and learn something. Don't bear false witness against your teachers.

I see no point to this law btw.

  2. And just that he got bail and the matter will probably be forgotten. He pleaded not guilty to a bailable charge with a very mild punishment that would have been 6 months. The important thing though is that he is free.

I wonder where that raging imbecile, mommy of Lagos got his own lawyer from? By pleading guilty, Bobrisky tied the hands of the judge. Let him enjoy his prison.

    2. Doggdeity There is a difference between bail and fine...According to Google, ''Bail is the temporary release of an accused person awaiting trial, sometimes on condition that a sum of money is lodged to guarantee their appearance in court'' It is not over

Fine according to google is ''A fine is a penalty that requires the convicted person to pay to the public treasure a sum of money fixed by law after an offense has been committe.''d

    3. Just becos cubana has pleaded not guilty doesn't mean he won't be punished accordingly. Infact,it's better to plead guilty to a misdeamor offense so the case can be speedily concluded. You pleading means you want the court to go through a full trail which takes times and may eventually even work against you in sentencing. In this case the evidence is all there to everyone to see,it's like saying I didn't do it when we came all see that you did it. Don't be surprised that cubana may also the maximum penalty here. But then,it's a different judge and a different defendant..so let's see what the judge's disposition would be here.

    1. Study what bail means. These are the adults that blame Nigeria but don't see how they have not prepared themselves for the world. All these years hearing bail yet you haven't bothered to learn the meaning.
