Fifty trucks conveying foodstuffs out of the country to Niger Republic were intercepted on Monday by the Zamfara State Transport Agency. The agency, which was enforcing a presidential directive meant to arrest the food crisis and hoarding, grounded the trucks loaded with assorted grains.

The veterinary technologist in charge of the Zoological Garden of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Mr. Olabode Olawuyi, has been killed by a lion on the campus. The management of the institution in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olanrewaju, explained that the incident happened when the deceased was feeding the animals in their den at the garden.

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities has said it will ground activities in universities across the country if the withheld salaries of its members are not paid. This was in reaction to the exclusion of members of SSANU from the payment of the withheld salaries by the Federal Government which only commenced payment for the Academic Staff Union of Universities on Monday.

The Federal Government has concluded plans to install biometric clearance gates for the Nigeria Immigration Service at the international airports in the country. The gates are expected to be ready at the airports by March 2024. When put to use, the gates would provide seamless clearance services for passengers entering the country through any of the international airports.

Tension has gripped the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku following gunmen attack on students’ hostels, which reportedly left one dead, and others injured. It was gathered that the management of the school subsequently announced a shutdown of academic activities for one week to enable them put in place security measures to guard against a recurrence.

The youths were carrying placards with some inscriptions such as ‘End food hike and inflation’, ‘The poor is starving’ and ‘Tinubu, don’t forget your promises’, among others.
