WHO Begs For E- Cigarette To Be Banned Or Reguated..

The World Health Organization (WHO) has indeed urged its member nations to ban or regulate the use of e-cigarettes and other novel and emerging products of the tobacco industry in the interest of public health.

This call was made during a virtual media briefing by the Network for Accountability of Tobacco Transnationals on the global tobacco treaty. The WHO’s global tobacco treaty is an evidence-based treaty that reaffirms all people’s right to the highest standard of health4.

The WHO has clarified that heated tobacco products and Electronic Nicotine and Non-nicotine delivery systems fall under the category of tobacco products. The organization has expressed concern about the tobacco industry’s new tactics to deceive government officials and ensnare the public. It has also highlighted the alarming increase in the use of e-cigarettes among children and young people, with rates exceeding adult use in many countries.

The WHO Director-General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has emphasized the need for urgent action to control e-cigarettes to protect children, as well as non-smokers, and minimize health harms to the population.
