The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYCF, has warned against relocating some departments of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, from Abuja to Lagos State.

AYCF warned that the relocation was a threat to the status of Abuja as the capital city and could have negative implications.

National President of AYCF, Yerima Shettima said the relocation would undermine national unity, cause economic setbacks, and regional imbalance.

 

 The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, was on Friday arraigned at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Maitama, Abuja, on 20 a count-charge bordering on corruption and forgery. Dressed in an ash-coloured pair of trousers and a dark jacket, the ex-CBN governor arrived at the court premises accompanied by his team of lawyers and associates.

Rampaging gunmen, suspected to be armed herders, have killed four persons, including two soldiers, in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State. The armed men were said to have carried out the attack after invading some communities, including Abugbe, Okokolo, Ugboju, Odugbeho, and Olegobidu.

Hope by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, of regaining gubernatorial power in Ogun, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Kebbi and Gombe states ended up in tatters on Friday after the Supreme Court dismissed claims by the party’s candidates of winning last March’s election in those states. A similar appeal by the All Progressives Congress, APC, in respect of Delta State was also thrown out by the apex court.

 Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, on Friday, disclosed that his state would be seeking both legal and political ways of resolving the crisis that has attended the sacking of lawmakers from the state. The Court of Appeal had last November sacked 16 members of the Plateau State House of Assembly, five members of the House of Representatives, and two senators, all of whom vied for the offices on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, over a pre-election matter.

 Presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in the 2023 elections, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has condemned the recent upsurge in banditry and kidnapping in parts of the country, particularly in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja. Highlighting security as one of the primary responsibilities of the government, Adebayo said the government had failed to protect citizens against kidnappers.

 Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has advised people protesting after the Supreme Court affirmed his election in the March 18, 2023 election to learn from the maturity displayed by members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) who heeded the advice not to protest when he lost at the tribunal.

 Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has announced the arrest of some informants working for kidnappers who had for some weeks launched daring attacks on some parts of the territory. Wike disclosed this on Friday during a town-hall meeting with various stakeholders and residents in Gwagwalada town

 Four suspects have been arrested by the Abia State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for operating an illegal refinery in the state. While parading the suspects at the site of the illegal refinery, the state Commandant, Usman Alfadarai, described the arrest as “a major boost in the overall fight against all forms of vandalism of critical national assets in Nigeria.

 The naira closed flat against the dollar on Friday at the parallel and official markets. It closed trading at N902.45/$ on the official Investor and Exporter window of the foreign exchange market and at N1350/$ in the parallel market.
