Abiding in Christ means staying in contact with him, depending on him, living for him and trusting him to finish his work in our lives in his perfect timing. Wait for God's promised harvest and, in the meantime, delight in his presence in your life. God is happy with you at every phase of your spiritual growth. He is not waiting until you're perfect to begin loving you. He will never love you one drop more than he already does.

ReplyDeleteLooking back I still am not sure if it was frugality, a spirit of recycling or a hoarding disorder but many in my neighbourhood did not discard containers when the products had bought was finished.
I will start from recycling. We had crates or empty bottles and cartons of empty beer bottles
My children will not understand it if I told them that each home had its supply of bottles and when you were sent to buy Star beer or Coca Cola you took those empty bottles in a bag to the local kiosk and exchanged them for full bottles
I always wondered how we got the first set of bottles.
This was Baba n’la recycling
A reusable culture was what we grew up with. No local kiosk sold products with plastic bags as you came with your own bags
When products like Bournvita or Derica finished the tins were stacked as ‘they will be used one day’.
Going next door to borrow ‘small’ kerosene, palm oil or groundnut oil required these tins and the habit was reinforced
Moin Moin was cooked in tins by many
Peeling yam and onions was done on old newspapers so a stack of Daily Times was kept in homes
But some took this too far. I once visited a friend and was astonished to see a pyramid-high stack of newspapers almost double my height!
The hoarders of Surulere threw nothing away. Clutter took over their homes
Every shoe bought and worn since the Nigerian civil war ended was kept under the bed gathering dust. Once in a while; in an act of generosity they ask a visitor’what is your size?’
Next minute they exhume the shoe and hand it out; rendering the resident cockroaches in the shoe homeless. Some kept clothes forever with plans to ‘take them to the village At Christmas’
The recycling that concerned my was when the ladies loosened their hair which hand been plaited with thread.
We salvaged the thread for kite making.
The other thing is that one could sell bottles and make some sweet money
Cosmetics were one of those things that some hoarded
Empty bottles of perfume. Empty lipsticks, empty powders, and nail varnish
The alcoholic drink bottles could be sold off. White Horse, Johnny Walker and Gordon’s Gin (or was it Shinapp) were THE MAIN stay of palm oil , groundnut oil and kerosene neighbourhood trading
From time to time we heard of children seeing kerosene in a 7 Up bottle and drinking it accidentally
There were no phones with cameras in those days
If Awon mummy wanted Awon daddy to buy any cosmetics on his foreign trip she would simply give him the empty container
One thing I hated about keeping soft drink bottles is the the sweet drinks attracted insects
I have just finished days of Christmas festivities and all I have in my bin are empty cans

DeleteFunny but true. You find out that you never bought empty bottles but end up having a crate of empty bottles. It turns out that people don't return bottles after buying drinks. This is why shops now demand a deposit to be made when buying drinks so that if you don't return the bottle, it can be replaced.

I have given to people here not even once or twice. When I came into the blog even without giveaway, I gave three persons here recharge cards worth N1,500 each during my birthday. I think Bv Yori Yori, Bv Treasure and one other Bv were beneficiaries.
After I got giveaway, I subscribed data for ten persons here through Bv Waju data. Stella was the one who sent the recipients to me. She can debunk it if I am lying.
It was same here I gave a token to Bv Justyswt when I mentioned it on the blog about her personality. It wasn't hidden. I have also given money to two other bvs here privately who mailed me. I didn't see the need bringing it to the blog since they didn't ask on the blog.
I have also paid a term school fees for a struggling mom's daughter here in 2021. So when people say I haven't given here, I really don't know what they mean by those words and I will say, they're not being fair to me as well.
It's saddening seeing the attacks on me whenever I am being mentioned here. The hatred is too much that I keep asking if I really need to be here or to reconsider that decision.

ReplyDeleteWhen I couldn't get my phone on two days ago, I dropped Stella a message that I will be away at the comment section but won't be long. It was even a private mail to her. The laptop and MIFI I have isn't something I will be carrying along with me anywhere I am going. I told her I will read from a smaller phone I have but will résumé commenting soon. Probably next week as I intend getting a new phone at the weekend.
Those saying cos Stella mentioned gifting phones. I didn't even notice a thing like that. I didn't even read that until on the Sunday Boulevard post after I had commented about my phone issue on the blog. If I needed phone from Stella, why make it public when I can easily private mail her about it?
Finally, I saw comments asking what happened to my business. It's important I also address this now. When I was into business I set up through money I got here, Stella and few persons here knew about the business I do. The business lasted for three years before it shut down. Reason of its shut down was that, the building housing my office was sold and the new owner wanted the place for himself. So renewal wasn't possible anymore.
So getting a new place and setting it up again was difficult due to the two years rentage demanded on places I got.
Financially, I wasn't all that buoyant at the time and if you can remember, that was the period I indicated for a business boost giveaway here and was dragged. So I had to fall back to the skill I was learning when the shop was running.
I parked every equipments I was using then for business safe, and went actively into my skill with the hope I will reestablish it again. I have shown pictorial and visual footage of my skills to Stella and some bvs here. I'm proud of the work I do. So I don't understand why anyone will say I'm lazy here.
No, I'm not lazy but hardworking.
Sometimes life happens and it seems one isn't trying or doing their best enough.
When you don't know a thing about someone, the least you can do is to ask questions and not to hate, pull down or draw a conclusion about them.
I have to bare it all at this time and I think, this is where it all ends.

DeleteTake example of the lady you want(ed) to marry, you took bvs along from the moment you said "hello" to her till when you stopped. I guess someone might have told you to stop. And you stopped talking about her. That now armed some folks that are sitting in judgement (I know you might not care), waiting for opportunity to insult and drag you if the introduction and subsequent traditional wedding did not take place.
Another example is your detailed story of what you passed through in the skill you engaged in. That was unnecessary.
Some here want to read or know that life happened to people and will glory in bad news and you present that to them on a golden plate.
Understand also that the blog will stay and flourish irrespective of your contributions, stories or comments.
Some things you might have said innocently are used to tout, troll and drag you, like you wanting a phone. Some people have phone issues, take time to fix them but you have to tell bvs for them not to "miss" your comments. Majority here don't care.
I know you're feeling sober as they troll you but I know after sometime, you will fall back again. The blog is 98% female or feminine (whatever), so understand you can't be judged same with others. Women get pass in almost everything but not same with men.
Understand that MOST here don't care, forget the daily greetings and amens. Keep your PRIVATE things to yourself.
