ReplyDeleteWhile I don't bet, I don't necessarily think only poor folks bet. I do know of a rich man who can boast of hundreds of millions in his account. He bets a million naira every weekend. That's 4 million every month on betting alone.

ReplyDeleteThe person who uses his money to bet is convinced the money is better spent in this way instead of on another item or service. It could have gone into a savings account, a little business, a snack or clothes store even a piggy bank but the then owner of the money preferred the dopamine release of the thrill of betting and that's his choice.
The person who also opened a betting company gets paid because people want to pay him for the thrill he offers and the dream he sells.
It's your choice how you spend what you have or borrowed. Adults shouldn't be making silly excuses about decisions they make about purchases: the alcohol company or drug dealer is not going to be charged to court as a second defendant for a DUI and no gun company faces charges for a murder or armed robbery.
The Las Vegas strip has pilgrims across every socioeconomic class so the rich also bet and some may cry as a result but keep coming back.
