Source of revenue to the government and boast business but no they won't except private individual
ReplyDeleteThere are many private individuals who can do this. O2 is not owned by the government of the UK. Even their biggest airport is privatised. There are many arenas and avenues where these talents play before selling out shows abroad and there are big events centres in big cities like Abuja, Lagos and port Harcourt that are privately owned. A poor country struggling to meet the basic needs of 200 million people, of which over 80 percent are untaxed and over 95 percent cannot afford a basic ticket of 500,000 Naira as the least charge excluding refreshments, transport or lodging, should not sink the borrowed money from its lean budget into building another national theater that would waste away again when the same stars start looking for free halls and discounted prices at the cost of maintenance. Government has the easier option of getting taxes from a private business. Think TINAPA, think the Calabar and Abuja festivals, think of the stadiums, compare private beaches to public ones. These projects cost governments across the womoney and net turn a profit.
ReplyDeleteThe private investors have done the math: the demand at USA price doesn't exist in Africa. Those is USA will not abandon the string of shows over the summer for Africa as most cannot afford the cost of an air ticket, lodging, visa fees, etc. the africans ready to attend will be going to their hometowns over the winter. African musicians will also be chasing foreign currency at that time so must will be outside Nigeria.
And of course, Lagos this, Lagos that and no message for your home state or your cousin in charge of the place. 🙄
Sit down with private investors and hatch out a plan with a clear stake for yourself instead of the mentally lazy trope of blaming government doing well in supporting the business of entertainment.
Sounds cool and may yield revenue if done, Gov Sanwo is building an arts center, visit him to include it in his plan or like anon said poach this plan to investors. However, it might be aspirational because not many people can afford to leave their country, nothing they say is impossible...but no forget even Beyonce and Liz dey do tour. Dubai will be known for real estate, Lagos for artists, again, it's possible.
