Nigeria's Political Parties Totalling 7 Form Coalition

Seven opposition political parties on Wednesday formed a new coalition to improve democracy in the country.
The Coalition of Concerned Political Parties was established in Abuja during a meeting of political party leaders at the National Secretariat of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Peoples Allied Movement (PAM), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Young Progressives Party (YPP), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) constituted the coalition.
While expressing concern about the country’s degree of insecurity, the coalition encouraged the judicial system to defend Nigeria’s democracy and cleanse itself of political and governmental influence.

  1. This isn't the problem even though I would support reduction of political parties to just three parties.

The problem is the absence of neutrality of the electoral umpire. If you like merge every political party and allow only one party to present two candidates, INEC will still give it to the highest bidder and the judiciary will consolidate the fraud.

  2. No be announcement of merger be the problem but the ability of each constituent party to be realistic in their expectations and ambitions. Such alliances collapse once the major contenders start trying to outsmart each other in order to get the ticket.
It was easier in APC because Tinubu and other guys (except Atiku majorly) agreed to allow Buhari have the 1st shot.
Will Kwankwaso step down for Atiku in this arrangement or vice versa, will the younger elements in PDP allow Atiku emasculate them again?
Will they try to include Peter Obi and his supporters?
    So many questions.
Without a realistic and well thought out action plan, this will just be another futile arrangement.
