Lawyer Who Battered Wife Reportedly Arrested But Wife Has Allegedly Dropped Case Against Him

Sunday Ekere Ebong (aged 55) The Uyo based lawyer who was captured in a viral video battering his wife has been arrested by the Nigerian Police in Akwa Ibom State but reports allege that the battered wife has withdrawn the case against him...

The Police Spokesperson in Akwa Ibom,Odiko Macdon, confirmed this in a statement released on Monday, stating that Mr Ebong has been arrested at his Ewet Housing Estate residence, Uyo.

According to the statement:
"The suspect assaulted his wife, and dehumanized her, leading to various grievous injuries. He is a known habitual perpetrator of violent acts against his wife over the years.

"As an agency saddled with the protection of lives and property and maintenance of law and order, we cannot allow Ebong to continue this flagrant abuse of human rights, hence, the Commissioner of Police, Olatoye Durosinmi ordered the arrest of the suspect to prevent murder and breakdown of law and order".

Mr Odiko Macdon further confirmed that Mr Ebong would be arraigned as soon as investigations were concluded.

  2. Not surprised. After all the battering has been ongoing for four years according to the neighbor. Most times, victims of domestic violence are best left alone, because you could end up looking like a fool and interloper when you try to help.
When she has had enough of the beating, she will leave. For now, the Mrs title is very dear to her.
Didn't they say marriage is till death do us part? Maybe being taken out in a body bag will be the decider.

    1. 'When she has had enough she will leave ' those were the exact words of my sister when i helped one of my friend that was in a very bad marriage with transport to go back to her parents .I'm yet to see a beast that comes close to that her husband. She left and I was very happy only for them to settle when she was almost close to her parents state of residence and she made a u turn and came back. To say I was angry was understatement but my sister said I should just leave her that the day she don get enough beating nobody will help her leave, true to my sister's words when she had enough beating she ran last month without telling me,it was when she got to her parents house that she called me sef.im in a hurry, forgive any typo error

  6. I love Akwa Ibom state, I lived in Uyo for one year, during my national service, I love Uyo,. I love the people calmness, fun , looks and skin (babes) 😌 and even the weather..

But underneath their calm demeanor is an hidden violent nature, you might never witness it tho if there is no provocation, but don't take their calmness for weakness, an average Akwa Ibom man has cutlass under his bed Lol.. Yes, I did my research 😁..

  7. I pray she won't learn in a hard way for the sake of her children

  13. She is suffering from the battered woman syndrome. After all she has been going through it for many years.

I remember when my cousin called me that her husband pumelled her. I thought she was pulling my legs till she sent photos of her swollen face, lips, black eye and injured body.

I am very action-oriented, if you know you just want to complain without looking for a feasible solution please ignore me but if you know you are ready to uphold your dignity, then, welcome.

I gave her two options. She either leaves the marriage or we take it up. She said it was his first time so she prefers to take it up. I applauded her because majority of women would have refused both options.

Although, I was not present but we took it up. He was shocked to find himself with the police. His family came over as I heard and were upset she did not involve the family first because they felt it was a family matter.

She said, he kept malice with her for a few days, due to his bruised ego i suppose and has never touched her ever since. They now live in peace and harmony.

When anyone, be it a man or woman, lay their hands on you, don't let it slide. Make sure you take it up.
Even if you are going to leave the marriage, let them remember you.

If you stay back and do nothing, just like this woman up there, you will get used to it overtime. The first time it happens, is when you take an action.

  19. People that are physically abused find it hard to leave their partners because their so called partners have manipulated them and killed their self esteem...it takes a lot of courage to leave an abusive partner...I wish her the best

  20. You see the reason why alot of people dont involve themselves in husband and wife matter..because of this kind of situation.they should leave that woman if she die na she kill herself,,I dont think I have RIP to waist on such person..

  23. The police doesn’t need his wife to be involved in the case. They don’t need her as a witness, the case can go to court and they can charge him for assaulting a woman and dehumanizing her.The video is the evidence he’ll still go to jail. His wife doesn’t have to be the complainant anymore.

    ReplyDelete

    1. The State can but they'll need the woman as witness for the claim to stand, if not, it's just a waste of time..

      Delete
    2. No they won’t.All they need is evidence and the video is clear.People that were there can be witnesses too but they can’t throw out the case because the woman says she’s not pressing charges. So if a man uses a machete to inflict harm on someone else and there is video evidence, the state won’t press charges because the person injured says he doesn’t want to?come on now!

    3. They don’t need her when there’s video
