Let us be safety conscious.
A line of shops got burnt to the ground in an area close to my office last week.
The electrical fault that caused the fire was from an incorrect connection done by a quack electrician. From the stories we heard, the electrician came and connected the newly acquired shop to their electrical source when there was power outage, instead of him to switch off the power in the shop and come test it when they restore light, he didn't. As soon as light came in the middle of the night when everyone had gone home, wires sparked and started a fire in the newly acquired shop. Residents saw the flames and trooped out but the fire had already become too serious for any thing to be salvaged. The water they poured on it did not do much. Before fire service came, everything on that line was gone.
Lesson learnt: I now put off the power in my house while going out in the morning. In my office, I put off the power supply at the close of work everyday.
Without any bad connection, power surge from our "NEPA" can lead to fire outbreak.
Let us be safety conscious.
Hmmmmmn. That's why I always switch my changeover from nepa to gen before closing. Fire is destructive.
ReplyDeleteGod will help us. So poster your freezer will be off once you are going out or you get stable power supply or you no get freezer or fridge. Because it is when we are out that nepa most times decide to bring light and off am once they know people are back home. Naa the little light in-between we use power the fridge o. Just let's do the right thing. God will protect us

DeleteSurge protector can be installed. Switch off heat creating electrical equipment - fans, heaters, irons, rechargeable lamps, etc.
DeleteLooking for cheap labour could also be culprit. If a good electrician give some people their price, they will feel it is overpriced and look for another who may come cheap but the end result will be the calamity that just occurred in this chronicle
ReplyDeleteIt’s true. Good electricians are not cheap and this is not one trade I would take risks with. Not everything we should try to save a buck with.
DeleteYea,learnt many years back to take the "Changeover" switch of the house or shop to either NEUTRAL or leave it in GENERATOR phase..
ReplyDeleteThat way if you aren't around, current doesn't come into the building except you take it to NEPA or switch on your generator..
Let's always do our best and leave the rest to God..
@MARTINS
Thanks,I change over to generator anytime I'm going out
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteIt is poor form to even leave anything on when closing for the day. I'll take it that they aren't using prepaid meters.
ReplyDeleteImagine paying for a shop and possibly even stocking it and it gets burnt down. Where do you even begin?
Talking of fire.
ReplyDeleteI just witnessed one. 3 houses gone like that,no thanks to someone's carelessness
hmmmmm i always pray to God to save me from fire outbreak. i witness it as a kids and i dont wish my enemy it.
ReplyDeleteThe carelessness of one person had caused damages for other people.
ReplyDeleteThank you for that
ReplyDeleteIf you own a block of shops or office, put a power switch under the control of the Porter who has the authority to switch off power to all shops and office at a certain time
