While discussing on the inspiration behind her latest project,the Actress and Filmmaker took to her Instagram page on Saturday to reveal that she became successful because her late mum raised her well despite having come from a broken home.
In her words:
"What inspired A Tribe Called Judah? I want to touch on this particular thing that people have against women, this stigmatizion of women without Husbands who have children from different men and they believe single parents especially the women are useless, they see them as prostitutes and they don't believe the children can be successful in life.
"I'm from a broken home but I thank God for my mum, you know she raised us well and that's why I'm successfull today, so I just want to touch that part. I want to celebrate single parents and mothers out there, I want them to feel the pains and challenges they face in raising children, especially one with five children from five different men, from five different tribes".

DeleteGender roles in naija is in shambles. While the world has forged ahead, naija is still stuck on blaming the mother for the shortcoming of the child. It's as if bringing up children is 100% the priority of the mother, same mother una expect to 'Bring to the table'. How will she bring up a child/children singlehandedly from the child's birth till they get to 21/23 years old(or even older) and yet that same mum, should still hustle 8am to 6pm, with side hustles on weekends and seasons. No single vacation as its still the mum that will arrange sallah, easter and Christmas food&jolly. Wash pots, clean house, prayer &fasting warrior, nurse/doctor, be sexy/beautiful, homework tutor, moral teacher, 'bring peace', n the home.
Very ridiculous standards, fling it to the bin or flush it down the toilet.
I watch my neighbours from middle East, the mothers take care ofthe children, the chef cooks, the house girl clean, the gardener and driver do their jobs. Even at that, she still looks stressed now and again.
Allow mothers breathe.
I hope the movie will be a bestseller.

How I wish men can go through pregnancies and labour, whether they will be so quick to abandon children to the mother, knowing what she will go through in our society.

DeleteDo everything to please society and one small deviation (no one isnperfect) you and your children/family will be judged. You as a person is not happy, society gaan gaan that you are trying to please has 'denounced' you.
It's only God that such a person will have. And she will need to be true to herself and make decisions that she can 'chest' and still live an purposeful life.

DeleteAnon 5.57, I know an elderly lady like that. Kids for 3 or 4 men. Very reserved lady, quietly doing her business.It was when she had to go through widow duties during the burial of some of those Ex's that some of us knew.

The exception is where a woman is/was a sex-slave and baby-making machine given out to different men.
