A former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega has urged the National Assembly to unbundle the commission to make it more effective. He made the call on Tuesday in Abuja at a Citizens’ Town Hall on Electoral Reform organised by Yiaga Africa and the European Union (EU) in collaboration with the National Assembly joint committees on electoral matters.

The political crisis in Ondo State took a new turn on Tuesday. The deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, is expected to sign an undated resignation letter, according to the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji. The Speaker explained that the submission of an unsigned resignation letter would be in compliance with the agreement reached by party leaders during the reconciliation brokered by President Bola Tinubu in Aso Villa, Abuja, at the weekend.

An Appeal Court sitting in Lagos State, on Tuesday, dismissed the petition filed by Tonye-Cole of the All Progressives Congress, APC, challenging the victory of the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the last election. The court declared the governor the true winner of the March 18 polls.
