Voters in Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi states will today elect their new governors. In the three states, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had revealed that 5,169,692 voters collected their permanent voter cards out of the 5,409,438 registered voters in the three states.


The National Industrial Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday restrained the Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress, and their affiliates from embarking on any strike or industrial action. The unions had after an extraordinary National Executive Council meeting on Tuesday in Abuja, declared a total nationwide strike from November 14, 2023.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has reported the abduction of one of its officials in the Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
In a statement on Friday, Wilfred Ifogah, head of INEC voters’ registration in the state, said the electoral official was kidnapped while waiting to board a boat at the jetty.

 The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the husband of Toluige Olokoobi, mother of the “mummy calm down” boy, days after she committed suicide early in the week. Confirming the arrest to journalists in Benin on Friday, the spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, said the deceased’s husband is in their custody for questioning.

 The police in Oyo State, on Friday, paraded a 45-year-old suspected ritualist identified as Hassan Kolawole with a fresh human head in Ibadan, the state capital.
Kolawole was paraded by the state commissioner of police, Adebola Hamzat, at the command headquarters, Eleyele, alongside nine others who were arrested for various crimes at different locations within the state.

 There are strong indications that the Imo State governorship election may not start on time in some areas, as some ad hoc workers of the Independent National Electoral Commission and operatives of the Nigeria Police have yet to board buses that will convey them to their places of assignment as of 5 p.m. on Friday.

 Founding National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Chekwas Okorie, has said it is suicidal and dangerous for governorship candidates in the off-season elections of Kogi, Imo and Bayelsa states to trust the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

 The Court of Appeal in Abuja has dismissed a fresh suit seeking to exclude Timipre Sylva, governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Saturday’s governorship election. A three-member panel of justices on Friday held that the suit was not justiciable, was in bad faith, and statute-barred, having been filed outside time.

 The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has deployed its operatives on election monitoring operations in Bayelsa, Kogi and Imo states. The commission’s Head, Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, in a statement said the operations were aimed at checking electoral fraud and associated crimes.

. A staff member of Dangote Refinery identified as Joseph Ameh has died after being hit by a vehicle in a hit-and-run accident in the Ibeju Lekki area of Lagos State on Thursday. It was gathered that the victim was walking along Golf Bustop along the Lekki-Epe Expressway when the yet-to-be-identified driver rammed into him and sped away.
