President Tinubu Says ASUU Will No Longer Go On Strike + Announces Date For Student Loan Takeoff

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu made a significant announcement at the 29th edition of the annua Nigerian Economic Summit.

He declared that the new Student Loan Scheme, which he signed into law earlier in the year, will take off fully in Nigeria by January 2024. This initiative is aimed at providing easy access to higher education for indigent Nigerians through interest-free loans from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund.

The funds for this scheme will be domiciled in the Ministry of Education and will only be accessed by indigent students of tertiary institutions.

In addition to this, President Tinubu assured Nigerians that government-owned tertiary institutions in the country would no longer go on strike.

  5. What are the causes of ASUU and other university based unions embarking on strike?
Until the government implement agreement signed between them and the unions, the issue strike will continue to persist.

  7. The Nigeria university system is grossly overrated. Courses are either outdated or poorly taught. What Nigeria government should focus on is to ensure people learn skills that are needed in today's world, not graduating adults year in year out who have no idea how to create jobs, but to constantly look for work.

Technical and vocational education should be largely encouraged. The universities will become more attractive and functional if we do not continue to be certificate dependent.
