Police Issue Press Statement On Death Of Crooner Mohbad + Reveal Prime Suspects

A nurse has been identified as the “principal suspect” in the mysterious death of  Mohbad,a Nigerian Afrobeats star, which triggered days of protests by thousands of people who demanded justice.....

Investigations into the death of Ilerioluwa Aloba, better known as MohBad, in the commercial hub of Lagos have pointed to the nurse who treated the late singer before his death, the Lagos police chief, Idowu Owohunwa, told reporters on Friday.

The nurse was invited to treat Aloba for an unknown illness at his Lagos residence where she “administered three different injections which are believed to have occasioned the chain of reactions that directly resulted in the death of the singer”, Owohunwa said.

The nurse is in custody, but there has been no arraignment and no formal charges have been brought.

The police statement came after a closely watched investigation that prompted Aloba’s body to be exhumed for an autopsy as authorities searched for answers to what killed the 27-year-old on 12 September.

Widely known as one of Nigeria’s fastest-rising young pop stars, Aloba’s death was confirmed at a Lagos hospital in unclear circumstances. Questions about the cause of his death prompted protests, rallies and grief across the west African nation.

His death also drew many to his songs, which were largely about his childhood and quest for a better life.
Outrage over the singer’s death was directed at Naira Marley, his former record label boss currently on trial in Nigeria for alleged internet fraud.

Marley was accused of mistreating Aloba, which he denied. He remains in police custody as one of the suspects in the case, police said.

They said their investigation found that doses of some drugs administered to Aloba by the nurse “immediately and directly triggered the reactions (including vomiting, goose bumps, convulsion) that eventually resulted in the singer’s death”.

The suspect is an assistant nurse who was not qualified to administer the medications, Owohunwa said. “She acknowledged that it was the injections that she administered on the deceased that triggered the reactions which eventually led to MohBad’s death.”

  1. Nurse from Hell.

All this Auxiliary Nurse that won’t seek their Superior or a RN Knowledge before embarking on their SOLO runs.

You have killed somebody(A Father, A Son, Husband, Helper to many) and it may not be the first Time this has happened.

Mohbad’s Head strong, that’s why all this is surfacing.

    She should be dealt with.

    Radarada…

Imagine killing him before his Time.

Please BV, Always ask the Medical practitioner(Doctor, Nurse,Medical Scientist, Medical Radiographer(imaging scientist), Pharmacist, Nurses) about the Drugs administered.

Tell them your Allergies( if you have one) Mohbad’s Death is an Eye Opener about the Lassie-faire in the Medical Field.

    1. Your last two paragraphs are the fact. People should seek professional advice. Stop cutting corners. Imagine someone as influential as Mohbad resolving to road side treatment when he could get VIP treatment in any good hospitals in Lagos. Such an avoidable death 😥😥😥

    1. In all sincerity I kind of guessed he must ve been injected wrongly. So many roadside nurses everywhere. Imagine his friend bringing a nurse to diagnose and administer injections. 3!!! I went to braid my hair sometime ago. The way some folks were coming to see d mum of my hairdresser and she was randomly giving injections. I asked if she is a Dr? Of course I could tell d answer ws no. I found out later she worked as cleaner in a hospital. Just learning work to become an auxiliary nurse! One nearly killed my brother in law at a hospital. But for my sister quickly noticing him gasping and giving cpr. If an expert had been around Mohbad could ve been resuscitated with same procedure. The nurse bit has not absolved Sam Larry and Naira Marley of complicity. They gave d boy high blood pressure at young age

    2. This is the same way you conclude that a contestant won election from the polls of small sample size that his team conducted.

What evidence do you have that Naira Marley or Sam Larry colluded with the nurse? Their own charges have to do with terrorising and traumatizing the singer when he was alive. An autopsy has been conducted and from the accounts of the deceased last hours, it's no surprise what the conclusions are. Please stop formenting factless conspiracies that may distract the unthinking.

  4. “She acknowledged that it was the injections that she administered on the deceased that triggered the reactions which eventually led to MohBad’s death.”

At this point, I think it's the nurse that should be held responsible for Mohbad's death.

  5. Quick question, is it proper for a nurse (wether RN or an auxiliary nurse) to administer injection on a person without doctor's prescription?
It is a common thing in Nigeria for a sick person to invite a medical personnel to give home treatment but inviting someone who's not a doctor has done more harm than good.

    May his soul find rest.

    1. It's not proper but people do it a lot in Nigeria. Any small illness, they go and call one nurse or auxiliary down their street to give them 'drip'. Those ones don't know what the real issue is but will give drip with all manner of concoction inside. I pity the aux nurse because she did what everyone else does but her own landed her in trouble. Meanwhile, cause of mohbad death has not been established but she is being blamed. In sane climes, she would be out on bail at least until she is formally charged with something concrete. Nigeria just sucks especially for the poor.

  6. The death is an avoidable one. Why would he refuse to go to the hospital?
Reading the statement released by the police saddens me all over again. He could still be here with us. 😥

  10. An auxillary should not administer medication without a doctor's approval
This is common in Nigeria, even the one's that are still under apprenticeship

  11. When I pointed fingers at the nurse, some Nigerians were more focused on screaming "arrest this, arrest that". This could have been a good opportunity for all to know the dangers of taking injections on chemist, private unknown hospitals and from auxiliary nurses.

Even when you go to hospitals, ask them the name of the drug they plan to inject you and if you can do a quick Google search. Or ask your caregiver to do that for you. Ask questions. This is your life.

Killer nurses also exist in Nigeria. Some of them kill for the fun of it or out of minute reasons. Ask questions.

What about the hospital that employed the nurse?

    1. You see and who invites a nurse to come treat them. Invite her from where? Call a doctor that does house calls if you can’t make it to the hospital, call an ambulance, why would you call a nurse who is not trained to do an assessment and determine the cause of illness, except if it is a nurse practitioner. A nurse is not a doctor and it is obvious the nurse lacked knowledge about drug interactions, and or dosing.

The person who invited the nurse should be charged too. And if a hospital authorized the nurse being sent then they are also liable.

This is why I work within the acceptable parameters of my industry. Playing with your career and cutting corners, bypassing protocols always lead to irreversible consequences.
