The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested a 67-year-old suspected trafficker, Chukwuemeka Clement, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja for ingesting 100 wraps of cocaine .

The suspect was arrested on Tuesday, October 3;2023, during the inward clearance of passengers on Ethiopian Airlines flight 951 from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
He was taken for a body scan, which revealed multiple pellets in his stomach. While under observation, he excreted a total of 100 wraps of cocaine weighing 2.195 kilograms in four excretions . In his statement, he claimed to have spent 30 years in Brazil, Ethiopia and Thailand, while he was once married but lost his wife and without a child.
He added that was why he decided to go into drug trafficking to raise enough money to marry a new wife and start life afresh .

His appearance alone suggests a lack of exposure to affluence. He should undergo rehabilitation even during imprisonment. While I'm skeptical about his story, the circumstances surrounding a 67-year-old man carrying drugs evoke pity and should inspire mercy. Let the law proceed, but rather than condemnation, he should receive assistance.

ReplyDeleteTo spend so many years in these countries, his way was probably not too pure as you can't regularize by marriage there, preventing him from coming home. He lost time ,He lost his wife and unfortunately, lost his only child in the process .
ReplyDeleteInstead of picking the lesson that corner corner no too pay, he got home, saw the mansions owned by the small time hush puppies and eze egos and , thought he would get lucky. I hope this will not cost him another 30 years.
If this guy had settled for a POS kiosk or anything in construction for his level of education, he would have the opportunity for more children children, a home and a livelihood. He may even have remarried but why mould blocks, do POS or supervise a bungalow when you can swallow poison and blow within 48 hours?
