He stated that his father began pulling strings to get him cancelled from shows, because he wanted him to finish school first, which in turn made show promotors afraid to book him for events.
He further revealed that he was able to finish school much later and at the moment, his father has turned out to be his biggest fan ...
In his words:
"I come from a big family that is really big on education. I'm first generation entertainer, in my whole life of bloodline.
"He was really adamant about me finishing school. One, because I didn't make it yet, Two, he didn't mind me doing music, but he was really bent on me,you know finishing school, because He owns a University and my mom was a college professor.
"So I think they were also scared because whatever you want your kids to do, you want them to be successful in it, in our business, it is not that easy to be successful.
"So you know, we kind of made a deal where I go to school for like two weeks out of the month, and the other two weeks, I can be in the studio and do what I want.
My Dad is a very successful man, you know, very wealthy so I was like you gonna give me some bread for my music?
"So that was really the deal, but the thing is that my music was always good and he knew that so the more I was going with the two weeks, doing the music, dropping videos,my music was getting bigger
It got to a point I was a distraction to the class when my music was getting bigger,it got to a point I didn't even have to leave by myself, they would be telling me to get up
After a while, I got to do it like a part-time class-type stuff and I was getting too big and he got mad mad
I'm talking about he seeing a billboard of me doing a show, the show gets cancelled before I even get there,it was really crazy.
"So at that time,I had a song that was like top 20 on the chart in Africa but then the next song I made was number one...like the president of the country my song was his Ringtone so eventually though I did finish cos I only had like a year and half left so eventually I did finish and now my Dad is now the biggest fan".
