He made this revelation at the premiere of Kunle Afolayan’s new movie ‘Ijogbon’, where he also encouraged young people interested in acting to build their skill.
He said
''When young people walk up to me and say things like, Daddy make me a star, I say if I have done 46 years and still struggling, then who are you? They should be ready to pay dues, do the art right so that the art can do them right".
He also emphasized that most young people want to act for the glamour and the gains, and are not ready to put in the work.

This man has been crying out for some time but people are not hearing him. It is better to help/support him now.
ReplyDeleteDM him and ask for his details.
DeletePeople close to him should reach out to him and know exactly what he is struggling with. It is well with him
DeleteMost of those veteran Yoruba actors are still struggling. He's not the only one. I really wish they could get the help they need. They are the ones that served us premium entertainment. Can't say the same for entertainments of these days.
Delete@Omotola
DeleteThat is one reason I don’t envy entertainers. There is a season for glitz and glam. After that, struggle begins and continues. If you don’t make best use of that season, and pull out to build other things, like RMD did, you will struggle. I was surprised when our own Genny was struggling with her mental health and everyone was shocked. Why?
You buy house in Lekki and do big babe today, someone will buy a bigger one tomorrow with half the drama of your fame.
The men that chase celebs will move to younger celebs soon. Especially these days with body enhancement.
If you marry and the man leg no strong, you will not have money for luxuries. It is people like Omotola who marry and stay married because of children and a husband that is trying.
So in the end, one should learn a skill on side and trade using your brand. Also to make some investments on side that will speak for you.
I am happy I left that path and chose the 9-5 way: the pressure on looking good with small resources, will make you either have low self-esteem or do other things for money, as a woman. Even if I decide to act one day, I have built a career brand that I can fall back to at anytime. Bukky Wright did Sam’s in the US.
Money without fame is still my ultimate goal sha. Less pressure, more focus and peace.
Aren't we all. It's well.
ReplyDeleteSuch a good actor. It's well with him.
ReplyDeleteVery good and also handsome 😉
DeleteHis people should reach out to him.
ReplyDeleteBut thank God for social media now, their work can not be pirated like it use to be during the era of dvd and vhs.All their labour in the past went to criminal who pirated their works.
ReplyDeleteThey still pirate their works. When movies are release on Netflix, you see other unsolicited sites also having same thereby reducing the number of views on Netflix .I think its only YouTube that is free from Pirate.
DeletePresent naija now, everybody dey struggle. Might not be financially for some though.
ReplyDeleteKing Jagunbade, I pray that whatever is troubling you, may God heal you from it. One of the soft spoken actors I've known all my life.
ReplyDeleteWhere is his support system? This is why it is not good to be a loner, in troubles and needs you on your own. I hope he has ppl who can help him or lead him to where help is.
ReplyDeleteNollywood industry should find ways to improve incomes in the industry for performers. It should be an Industry that you can enter and make an income that you can raise a family on.
