The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, disclosed this on Saturday
A statement by Tuggar’s media aide, Alkasim Abdulkadir, reads: “Sequel to the inquiries on the letter recalling the Nigerian ambassador to the UK, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has clarified that all career ambassadors and non-career ambassadors have been recalled on the instructions of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“Ambassadors as representatives of the country, serve at the behest of the president and it’s his prerogative to send or recall them from any country.”
However, the minister did not disclose the reason behind the recall.
The current ambassadors, including Ishola, were appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
But, Tinubu recalled him following the expiration of his tenure.
Previously, Ishola was the Minister for Mines and Steel Development under the late former President Musa Yar’Adua.

Last paragraph. Hmmmmm🤔
ReplyDeleteMinister under Yardua
DeleteStill do ambassador under Buhari?
It is the common practice even when Nigeria was under military rule. With change in government, they are recalled and people familiar with the the present government, posted to push and oversee it's interests.
ReplyDeleteI often wonder why they don't let the incumbent hand over to the new ambassador, introduce them to diplomats/contacts/relationships they built during their tenure etc. before going back to Nigeria.
