Viral Story Of How Young Nigerian Doctor Vwaere Fell To Her Death In Faulty Hospital Elevator

This story will break your heart.....

''And We Lost Dr. Vwaere To Nigeria’s Anyhowness....

When Dr. Vwaere was being inducted as a Nigerian doctor after her six-year sojourn at Babcock University last year, she had high hopes and expectations. She had hopes for a flourishing medical career.

Expectations to use her newly learned medical skills to benefit the community and society at large. Training a child at a Babcock medical college is quite expensive and does not come cheap. 3.5 million per annum for school fees alone during her time; it is now 6.5 million per annum, but her parents did it because they wanted to give the best to their daughter and then to avoid the anyhowness in the Nigerian university eco system.

Post-induction, Dr. Vwaere got a place to do her internship at General Hospital (Odan, Lagos Island), a facility owned by the Lagos State Government. Before Dr. Vwaere joined the General Hospital as a student doctor, it was noticed by the resident doctors and staff of the hospital that the only elevator at the hospital had been in bad shape since 2018 and then there was no running water in the hospital.

But because of Nigeria’s anyhowness, one big madam, or Oga, siphoned or embezzled the money meant to replace the elevator while patchy work was done at the elevator to serve as a temporary respite, endangering people's lives in the process and turning deaf ears to the genuine complaints by resident doctors at the hospital.

The elevator was so bad that it stopped at intervals, and you had to manually use your hand to close it in order to continue your journey. The carelessness, wickedness, and anyhowness culture we have here have finally ended the journey and the dreams of Dr. Vwaere. Just like the rest of us, Dr. Vwaere woke up today with bright hopes for the month of August. She was upbeat for one reason: her housemanship at General Hospital (Odan, Lagos Island) was finally coming to an end. She had less than two weeks to round up She went to work excited that she has less than 2 weeks to complete her housemanship.

And this afternoon, a dispatch rider who brought the food she ordered online called her on the phone to let her know that he was around. Since she was free, she elected to go and pick the food herself from the ground flour where the dispatch rider was, and on her way to meet the dispatch rider, She entered the faulty elevator. And then disaster struck. The elevator fell from the 10th floor, where she was, to the ground with a loud thud that shook the foundation of the hospital. Even the dispatch rider who was waiting at the entrance of the elevator thought that Armageddon was here when he heard the noise, so the man ran for his dear life.

It took one hour before Dr. Vwaere was rescued from the debris of what was once the elevator. She was still alive, though badly injured, and was bleeding when she was brought out and rushed to the emergency section of the hospital. And from multiple accounts of those who witnessed the surreal drama Dr. Vwaere was crying that she did not want to die; even while stuck in the elevator for hours, she was crying for help.
"I don't want to die; help me," she cried nonstop. She cried that she wanted to live and not die, but her desire to live was truncated by Nigeria's anyhowness, which snuffed the life out of her. Again, Nigeria's anyhowness kicked in and deprived her of this chance to live. She was taken to the emergency section of the hospital, but after another delay because there was no blood, That was how Dr. Vwaere gave up the ghost.

The young lady died just like that. Corruption kills, and this is another part of corruption we don't discuss well enough. We just lost Dr. Vwaere because of that hydra-headed monster and Nigeria’s culture of anyhowness. I am visibly upset as I’m writing this.

This is not right. We can’t continue like this. We can’t continue living like this, like animals. For how long will we continue to tolerate losing our best and brightest to this culture of mediocrity?
Nigeria keeps devouring its youth. Nigeria failed Dr. Vwaere; may her innocent blood spilled for no reason haunt and punish those criminals who embezzled the money meant for a new elevator.

Kai, just see our level of foolishness and geeediness. The CMD of that hospital is a blood sucking demon.

So no budget allocation for that govt hospital? Nothing will be done to the CMD. Yeye government.

    4. @12:55 Because sometimes, pampering and protecting a child too much, does not help them understand society. If they sent her to private university, they can let her do her housemanship and in a government owned facility. They meant well. It’s the government that is rubbish

    1. Why would I spend so much money to train a child and allow her go for houseManship in a government hospital that is obviously a death trap? Why not a recognized private hospital like at nicholas or lagoon? Omg 😱 this is so sad honestly. May her soul rest in peace, amen.

Her family should engage the services of Falana Chambers and sue the MD of that hospital. Next time, that person will sit-up and do the needful.

    2. The best graduates used to be given priority in teaching hospitals. Decades back, only those not at the top of the class went to the private clinics. Many children of government looters don’t know they have blood on their hands. May God judge all those who looted the budgetary allocation and caused the death of this girl & similar deaths across Nigeria in Jesus Name. This was so avoidable☹️

    4. Spaces for horsemanship are very competitive and limited especially in big cities. With even basic blood not being available, you can imagine the quality of training in less funded states.

If you have a faulty elevator, the only safe thing to do close is to close it off. In buildings With eclectic power supply and poor maintenance, please just avoid using elevators.

  3. It is indeed terrible. Very heartbreaking and total wickedness. You were given funds to repair the elevator but you refused to do it because you want to eat the money. No value for human life and claim to have a sense of godliness...

We are quick to blame our leaders but the citizens are doing worse.

Rest in peace, beautiful Queen. This is so sad and a very avoidable death..

    5. I lived there as a child in the mid 80s and early 90s. The issues were same: faulty lift, no running water etc. We never dared to use the lift. We all took the stairs, even to the 10th floor. Often multiple times a day to fetch water. Awful that things are as bad as ever and this bright and beautiful young doctor has died needlessly and competely avoidable if issues that have been know about since at least 1986 had been addressed πŸ˜‘πŸ’”

It’s God that will punish all of them like they can’t see the level of corruption and lackadaisical attitude of the nation championed by the govt
They will castigate japa like they are doing anything to change the situation of things
I was at national hospital yesterday and due to the strike those who came for chemotherapy had to be sent home, I can’t totally blame the doctors because they are paid rubbish while those at the top who do nothing eat fat.
      It’s just terrible

  11. Sad πŸ˜” story.

Let me have you know that apart from bad governance, Nigerians are wicked people. We have some heartless people in this country. When it involves money, an average Nigerian could kill without thinking twice. It's all about them and about them only.

I'm sure there are some people in charge of the maintenance of that hospital. The complaints have been on for years, yet nothing was done to repair the damage till it claims a life. Why would anyone embezzled money meant for maintenance?? Isn't that the peak of wickedness and carelessness??? I was so angry and sad reading the story online. Imagine the promising young life that was cut short just because someone/people wants to live luxuriously on national cake. So heartbreaking.

    1. Whatever starts from the head is passed through the body, the head is already corrupt because of access to stolen money, they know you can get away with anything as long as you have money so money had become god to the people.
If the head wasn’t so corrupt the body won’t be, cus the head cannot be preaching something and the body follows another.

In a family, children follow by example, if your father smokes in your presence from the age of 2 how then does he expect you to be raised right?
We blame the citizens forgetting the head is in charge of implementing the law, but once you have money you are above the law

The citizens are just as wicked as their head, when the head leads by example and implementation the body will follow
Doesn’t your brain tell you where to go ?

To fix elevator is not a big deal. Where I work just because the elevator was making strange noises the fixers were called with immediate effect and they fixed it because elevators are supposed to be noiseless.

  31. It’s about time the death penalty be handed out to these embezzlers. It’s the same story over and over again and nothing changes. They get an easy five or six years sentence and is back to enjoying what they stole. Imagine stealing money meant to replace an elevator, putting staff, visitors and patients lives at risk and you out here walking free and enjoying your thievery. Heads should roll in that institution. Then no blood on hand wtf kind of hospital is this. How can a country of 300 million ppl lack blood at anytime in a hospital? This mess is too freaking much to deal with.

My heart goes out to family and loved ones of this young lady. They did everything right and still lost. My heart breaks knowing how close she was to escaping that place and didn’t. Rest well beautiful doctor.

  33. May God comfort the family of this doctor and all those she knew when alive. A faulty lift in a multi storey hospital since 2018, no blood... What kind of medicine is being practiced there? These kind of stories are eerily common all across the country. Does the NMA have any standards or is it the ministry of health at the national or state level that sets and enforces these? Serious questionsneed to be asked.
