  President Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday in Abuja, described as “unfortunate” the killing of an eight-month-old infant in the recent violence in Plateau and Benue states, north-central Nigeria. He directed security agencies to fish out the masterminds of the killings, insisting that they must be made to face the full wrath of the law.


The asset recovery committee set up by Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, on Tuesday, stormed the automobile workshop owned by former governor Samuel Ortom with towing vehicles and removed some vehicles. Alia, through his Chief Press Secretary, Kula Tersoo, recently disclosed that government vehicles, numbering 29, were allegedly looted by the past governor.

 Operatives of the Ebonyi Police Command have killed two hoodlums who were allegedly enforcing sit-at-home, in the state. The hoodlums were said to have shot sporadically into the air within the Okposi area in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, while trying to enforce a sit-at-home order, on Monday. Operatives of the command engaged them in a gun duel.

Gunmen, on Monday, kidnapped a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Joseph Azubuike, and three yet-to-be-identified persons in Ebonyi State. The Chancellor of the Abakaliki Diocese, Rev Father Mathew Opoke, while confirming the incident in a statement on Tuesday, said Azubuike was kidnapped close to his parish while returning from evangelical duties.

 The Ondo State Acting Governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Tuesday, alleged that some unknown people are behind the scene, putting up write-ups in the media to cause a crisis within the state government. Aiyedatiwa warned those behind the acts to desist, noting that the absence of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu had not created any gap in the governance of the state.

 The House of Representatives has constituted an ad-hoc committee to screen the recently appointed Service Chiefs. Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, who announced the setting up of the panel on Tuesday at plenary, said all the eight principal officers of the House from the majority and minority parties would be part of the ad-hoc committee.

. Suspected diphtheria outbreak has killed at least 30 children and left 42 at the isolation center of the Specialist Hospital in Potiskum Local Government area of Yobe State. A source at the Isolation center revealed that they are faced with inadequate drugs to contain the situation.

 A family court sitting in Iyaganku, Ibadan, Oyo State, on Tuesday, again ordered the remand of a prankster, Maruf Abdullahi, aka Trinity Guy, and the parents of a minor to the Agodi Correction Centre until August 31, for allegedly sexually exploiting a 10-year-old girl in the state.

 The challenge of funding family planning in the country may lead to more cases of unwanted pregnancies and abortions, according to the United Nations Population Fund. It stated this at an event to mark the 2023 World Population Day organised by the National Population Commission in Abuja on Tuesday.

  3. The problem with this Trinity case now is that who will be taking care of that girl as her parents have been arrested? Police case isn't a good thing oh, after all said and done, there's no winner.
