Man Highlights The Negative Part Of Relocating Out Of Nigeria

This another aspect of relocating out of Nigeria that you don’t get told. ...MUST READ

He tweeted

''This was us several years back as a young couple looking for better life abroad. The dream was good, the intentions were good and we had enough to start. We just didn’t have enough information of how challenging it would get.

We started life in a single room within a shared flat where we even got told when we could use the washing machine or turn on the heater (even in winter). The jobs were demeaning and always tiring but the poor exchange rate of my home currency gave a false sense of deception that one was earning good but the reality was different.

Even with both our incomes, it was difficult to live averagely. Note: we were way better than others here!

At least we were together but extreme work rota meant we barely got to spend time together, marriage strained. Now imagine many had their spouses back home and their marriages went through worse.

Always at the mercy of the home office that was always changing immigration policies, one never truly felt settled. In the end, we returned back home and quietly started over, together. Decades on, everything we sought abroad got handed to us back home!

AlhamduliLlaah.

Now imagine many still stuck, illegally living, unable to work for standard rates, unable to even rent a place in their name, unable to open an account, unable to have peace of mind and always apprehensive of law enforcement, unable to grow yet unable to return home!

What’s the point? Relocating will test you and your marriage in different ways. Please be sure before you copy anyone and sell all you have to move. However, if you find yourself stuck, have a good exit plan even if it means coming back home to start over.

Many people and marriages are breaking due to the pressure unplanned.
Don’t go this route, do your findings well, your home depends on it.

    1. I think this is when one didn't travel via study route.

Someone should explain more if I'm wrong.

    2. @Mao Akuh, going the study route doesn't guarantee staying on after you finish. My nephew came to study but could not get a work sponsored visa after he finished. Thank God that he had enough saved from working to get a post study visa himself.
The UK immigration policy is stiffer now so if you come here and overstay your visa, you're oyo

    3. I traveled through study route and still had these challenges, the UK immigration policies keep changing then.

    4. What visa were they on? They go on their motigbotional posts and speeches without divulging the key information people need to be aware of.

  2. This is for those who stay abroad illegally. I know those who are staying with work visa and they are doing well

    2. @11.52 you are right. My family is here and we are doing well by God's grace. We've been here for more than 20 years; never regretted being here and we always have enough and left over to send to the needy back home.

I would've written your last phrase as, ".....and left over to send back home". Sounds less condescending that way.

    3. Leave them to be capping shit, the percentage of those succeeding are way about those suffering it and that’s because they were illegal
I saw a post of a first class graduate being killed for stealing bread… just bread in Nigeria, that can and would never happen abroad. So what are they talking about?
Life is generally not easy for any adult, you have to put in the work except you have massive inheritance.
Why dint they grow their certificates? Or look for better fields that pay more?
Enh, anyone that wants to come back should come back now, when they meet this level of corruption and hardship nobody will tell them they were better off

  5. Just today, I watched a video of a family celebrating for moving into their own home in the Uk. Travel illegally and see shit! Travel legally with the right education and literacy and you can actually be living ok (I didn’t say rich) within 2 years.

    2. Did you mean to say “moving into their home in the UK by mortgage that will be paid for 20 or more years?” The deception of people buying homes two or three years after moving to some countries abroad is too much. They fail to tell you about the bond of payment that is never less than 20 years. So EKA, don’t tell us about this house buying or luxurious car buying thing without talking about the payment bond. That’s how people get deceived that you could travel tison countries abroad and buy a house or flashy cars in two years.

  9. The part where a couple will have to stay apart for God-knows how long due to this relocation thing is what I can never ever agree to. Never! We either go together or we stay here together. I no do!

Also, one needs to plan very well and even have enough to get the basics, else, just stay in your country, please.

  10. I saw this on twitter yesterday. It's an eye opener for those that wants to relocate by illegal means.

  11. Whether you travel legally or illegally is just God! Top management staff in banks have turned to care workers and security in the UK. They travelled legally. As I dey here, I have lived across countries and continents and took my leave when I understood their modus operandi! If is only the organic food and peace of mind! I pass on all the life is better abroad! My goal now is to have my own home grown food sef and focus on my projects here in Africa.

    1. God bless you anon, people commenting as if abroad is heaven. There is no where on earth that is perfect, there will always be the good and the ugly, there will always be those making it and those not making it in all parts of the world. There are places over there ,that you won't believe exists and may not believe unless you see it with your eyes.
Abroad is not heaven and never will be.Just like Nigeria is working for some and not for some, same is it over there.
      Let's stop deceiving ourselves.

    2. Most abroad is better Nigeria
But you can do better in Nigeria sometimes or do worse
What you can’t do is have better amenities in Nigeria
You can make your own house better but you can’t make all roads better you can’t make all hospitals better
Sure you can have your own great private hospital but if an emergency hits you or a loved one somewhere else where you can’t reach that hospital, you may be in trouble
What of better bathrooms at the airport. Will you build yours too? Nigeria is messed up in that regard. God help us

    3. And what's wrong with being a care worker or a security officer? Oh everyone must be in health sector or IT? Some of you forgot there's something called passion and there are every work for everyone. Many people home and abroad are miserable because they pursued careers they have no passion for, all because they want to be seen as people "doing well ". All types of work (job) are necessary in a society and it is absolutely wrong to consider any work good or bad. To some people, it's where they make more money like Martin's mentioned up there about truck drivers (i bet you don't know they make that much) and to others it's about getting the top jobs while others are about passion. There's nothing as fulfilling as having a job you have passion for. Abeg i no fit type, if not i would have written about how i started abroad and where i am now. To cut the story short, we own a home a little over a million dollars. There's dignity in labour!

The hike in transportation and other commodities doesn't affect them. Anon I won't blame you because you can never understand the in-thing.

Northerners and politicians children keep looking for every possible means to discourage people who plan relocating in future.

As toilet and road is your problem!I have all the amenities in my house in Nigeria! I don't need slavery 2.0. They have released another virus for you people yesterday! Just pray, you don't end up in FEMA camps! With what is coming the next 2 months! You will prefer to even stay in your village in Africa.

I don’t know which America you’ve been to but if you don’t know the facilities are better in America, then you need to visit properly
You have good bathroom in your house yet you flew from Lagos airport and think Nigerian airport bathrooms are better than us then you are part of the problem

The goal is to ball hard in Naija and I'm good.
Anyone who wants to trial what being in a more developed country feels like shouldn't be afraid to take that leap of faith, just do it legally to make your life abroad easier.

    9. God has no hand in illegal migration. Part of the reason they are doing better in Nigeria is because of the freedom legal status guarantees and the opportunities you can avail yourself of due to that status.

  14. His story is for someone who in their excitement forget to do their due diligence. Nigerians jump to go anywhere just to say they went somewhere, some return in body bags, some end up in lifetime slavery, and some do succeed. It is important that all stories be told so that those who are sure that they will enter the land of milk and honey learn that nothing is ever as it seems.

  15. I have 4 siblings abroad.
The first 2 to leave are doing very fine. They did many times better than how they were back in naija.
Back in naija they couldn't afford luxury even if they were working in government as civil servants.
But now they work, own their own business, sending lots of money home, bought landed properties and also have quality home in their abroad country, enjoy vacations abroad, well settled.
They went through Work immigration and got PR within 2yrs.
The other 2 went as graduate students, one is done and got a good job even while schooling, she is doing fine, she was able to pay her school fees and everything in her 2nd year.
She's fine, working to get her PR and husband.
While the other had a good job as a banker in naija earning good salary, but she left to study with little cash and she is somehow stranded cos of improper planning. My other siblings had to step in to help her.
Planning is very good. Mostly if it's a good plan.
Me I'm planning my own exit from naija.
It will happen soon and God is already being glorified for my next level.
Japa is not for everybody. That is the plane truth.
But also it has been a major life saver for a higher percentage.
Not everybody who returned home like these guys had it easy and ended well.
    So be guided guys.
Always plan well and seek God too.

    1. The course is VERY important. For your other sibling to get an offer even before graduation shows he/she most likely went for a course that is in high demand. I shake my head when people travel to Canada for graduate programs in courses like Human Resources. "Like Why?" How many HR personnel does an organization need? Most of them barely leave the organization so attrition rate is low. Also, considering the cultural differences and the different management and communication styles between say Nigeria and Canada, how many organizations will want to hire you as a fresh graduate? Even if you don't have head for IT, as long as you wrote your exams yourself in Uni, there are many technical fields to target and do a master's in that related field. You can become an automated software tester, manual software tester etc. Healthcare is another high demand sector; From care to dental to medical lab etc. People should be strategic and do their research and homework, especially if they will be paying thousands of dollars for school fees. All the best.
