    2. We all have states of origin for a reason, be proud of where you come from. State of origin is very important to identify those who have terrorism intentions to wipe out and take over other tribes territories. We don't want imposters blending and mingling amongst us while pretending and shining teeth but behind us they are plotting catastrophic evil.

    3. In America, there’s not a thing as state of origin, but of course state of residence and race. Which you can also decide not to answer. In 20 years, I have lived in 5states due to school and work purposes.(in USA) let’s upgrade in good things too, not only emulating rubbish from western worlds.

    4. There is no state of origin when the original indegenous population have been killed off by the loving and patriotic settlers that commemorate bloodshed with Thanksgiving . What death, destruction and dehumanization have the American Indian tribes not suffered while their history has been wiped out and everyone is screaming one nation?

Despite the existence of the EU and the open borders in that system, have these ancient nations not only come to know relative peace since millenia because forced fusion was stopped, and borders re-drawn? Is there any document issued by the EU that does not state clearly one's nation state ie one's origins? The Austro Hungarian empire fell, USSR fell, Sudan was sliced in half, the UK has had to accommodate nation states with independent governments who are always looking to leave, Czechoslovakia crumbled, Even Lesotho that is inside another nation wants to remain on its own. You cannot have a people with their language and culture eroded and erased because you want to take what they have by force.

The same people who refuse to marry each other based on subtribes in the name of "states" that were created just few decades ago are now wondering what states have done for anybody. You have an entire region to practice your statelessness and enjoy the benefits.

The same newly patriotic people are the ones who sat contentedly when a governor sacked all directors in it's state civil service who were not from the same state and his brother governor also retuned the favor. This practice was popular in both states as it was really a war of subtribes. These are the people now claiming that others of different languages and tribe should throw away their origins while they make a compulsory religion of theirs.

The recognition of a people's history, race, language, philosophy, heritage, culture, traditions, institutions, etc is what has kept the third world war at bay. Let everyone maintain their champion.

  3. Oil dey your head.. absolutely correct. State of origin should be abolished. Some of us were born, bred, watered outside our state of origin, used to the culture of that state of residence and you will hear people who migrated to that location telling you that you don't belong there.
I is totally wrong, we are all Nigerians. This state of origin gave birth to tribalism.

  5. everyone has a place where they come from. We should identify where we are coming from but that shouldn't stop us from loving each other no matter our tribe and state of origin.

  6. You are so on point, it creates division

  7. I don't agree with him. What's a person without identification? Your tribe or state of origin is an identification. Taking that away will only cause rancour in the society. So many identity crisis will occur.

Of course, there's individual differences. That shouldn't strip us off our identity or origin.

  8. I most respect Okey Bakassi and Acapella of all the SUCs in Nigeria. They both have great depth and intellectual value not just to the entertainment industry but to the world at large. TrevorNoah is another personality that gives me true value on and off the stage. Alpha intelligence and fearlessness🙌. In fact, dem be endangered species and must be protected. If dem laff ordinary laff post online sef, I must watch and have attended a few of their shows here and there. Okey is a little too explicit though and his jokes may not be suitable for minors.

However, on top this particular matter, even though his intentions are noble, I daresay it won't work and I do not agree. Nigerians are not ready for that conversation yet as clearly demonstrated in the last general elections. Let everyone embrace their states of origin and contribute their quota especially in character to make it safe and better. Many have used their youthful years and resources to develop other people's States for too long. It's time to replicate the same back home to avoid more insults in the future. I pray Nigeria gets there someday in the future though.

  9. It's shouldn't be abolished, it's the mentality attached to it by the people is what we should be talking about. Whether state of residence o or state of origin, we need to change our orientation/perception towards other tribes or regions.

  10. It causes tribalism atimes shah. It has its own benefit too

  11. He made sense here but Nigeria is not ready for this. Let's stick to what we know for now.

Those from majority tribes will generally not agree

  13. The countries you are trying to emulate all have state of origin as a core part of governance and citizenry, they also attach some pecks to coming from certain states.how do you do elections fairly if there are no states of origin, how do you share national wealth if there are no state of origin, how do you even have the National Assembly (a core arm of government)without them coming from different states?

    1. Which developed country uses state of origin in formal documentation? We use residence, not origin, when filling out any document, whether it's for work, business, or school. All they want to know is where you live, not where you are from - except you voluntarily disclose that information. Requesting ethnic information can lead to discrimination and perpetuate racism.

That's the same thing happening in Nigeria. Knowing the state of origin brings about discrimination towards people from some states, even before you get to meet and know them. Some people have never lived in their states of origin, yet they don't have access to certain opportunities in their states of residence, e.g., running for office. Why should any right-thinking person (and nation) support that?

      I agree with Okey!

  15. This has to be a joke.
You don't want state of Origin but you want to have a hometown.

  16. It is easy to suggest such nonsense when your home is of no value to you and you have your eyes set on someone else's. Origin, history and identity are required for unity instead of the deadly quiet that forced co-existence brings.

It is a pivotal step in colonization: the erasure of history that makes a black African from the oldest continent and cradle of life describe himself as a descendant of Abraham or .

This dangerous idea has worked in the USA, Australia, Canada and other conquered lands where borders are now drawn with straight lines because the real offers have been silenced.

If Okey is sure that one's origins are of no value, he is free to go to his home state and turn it into the kind of state that settlers will start suggesting that it's history is useless and identity is pointless. It is always interesting to me that the least welcoming and most homogeneous parts of Nigeria are the ones that blow the dog whistle of unity when they want to take something that they know is not theirs forgetting that they have continued to resist the same unity in their own homes to which they are fully attached.

Identity and origins has worked well enough for China, Singapore, UAE, Qatar, Japan, South Korea, Ireland and many other successful countries with an indegenous population. No matter how much people are forced to deny the truth, we are of different origins and history cannot be erased no matter the amount of deceit or bloodshed. Biafra/ ND Republic/ Yoruba nation Arewa/ O in one breath, one Nigeria when there is something to take.

Even the colonizers whose population is being diluted by immigrants are complaining. Why? Because origin!

Our forefathers could live in peace because the stations of settlers and owners of the land was well known and responsibilities and benefits spelt out.
