Restaurant Responds As Chef Hildabaci Denies 25k Fees To Meet With Her Fans In Their Facility

The management of an Abuja restaurant has has responded to chef Hilda Baci's denial of 25k fees to meet and greet her fans in their facility....
They also say she was paid N3million for the event and will seek legal means to resolve the issue...

"We regret to inform you that the highly anticipated event, scheduled to take place on 24th June 2023, has been cancelled. We extend our sincere apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused you, our esteemed customers.
"Arrangements for this event were already concluded, as both parties agreed to put out publications for the event after an advanced payment was made to Miss Hilda Bassey.
"However, Hilda Bassey suddenly denied publicly having any prior knowledge of the event. Her conduct has negatively affected our reputation as a brand. Consequently, we are taking all necessary legal steps towards ensuring that justice is seen to have been done in this matter."

The management also shared the receipt of N3m paid to Baci.

  1. Hilda has also responded with receipts. I’m glad she kept receipts.

  2. How can you charge people 25k for a meet and greet with Hilda Bassey?

A whole 25k in this harsh economy!!

She did right by refunding the money and cancelling the event

  3. If there's a receipt. Why is she denying? Just like they said, they should follow the legal way and seek redress.

  5. 25k to "meet and greet"😲. I didn't even know "meet and greet" has a price.

  6. But they did not share the refund she made to them even before they started dragging her. She refunded them and even shared the chats showing she was against them collecting 25k even before the news went viral

  7. She may not be aware of them charging 25k, but she shouldn't have denied having an arrangement of the event with them since she has been paid. I also understand she has returned the money, that alone mean there's some connections between both parties. I hope they sort it out amicably.

  9. I was at her live late last night and she is innocent in this case as a new born baby.

When they told her about the 25k she rejected it immediately and told them she can't do it. Same day she refunded them the 3m. Now they are not saying all these but saying something else.
She has all the chats, receipts and voice-notes of their dealings. Her lawyers have taken over the case.

They wanted to scam the public with her appearance but she refused and stopped them. Thieves.

    1. What did she think the 3m was for? I am curious to know

    2. I am also very curious to know how she thought the brand was going to make the 3million they paid her? It was meant to be a money-making event for both parties.

  10. Once you acquire a public "status", you cannot just sign or agree to any contract for money without seeking industry savvy advice.

Because most of us sentimentise a lot of issues on this side of the world, we expect everyone to do the same. When they refuse to, we play the sentiment and other cards against them .

In this case, was there a contract? Did she sign? Did she read the terms before signing? What do the signed terms say?

If the contract is oral, what was said and agreed to before she collected the money.

These and maybe two other questions are the relevant issues.

Anybody can pay any amount to meet and greet. Further, an event can be only about her because she is now a brand and a status person.

The return of money paid under a clear mutually agreed contract does not absolve the breach. It only goes to reducing potential damages for the breach.

There is no sentiment in business. Even business CSR is profit targeted or at the best part of business. That is why big companies employ CSR heads of GM levels or higher.

This woman should get professionals around her if she wants to profitably monitise her success.

She may scale this. The next may pull her down or pin on her the badge of unreliability with contracts.

    2. Legal trainee. Same thoughts I had while reading the story and comments. It's none of her business how much the restaurant charges for the meet and greet. Won't they recover the money they paid her and other expenses?
It is not by force, anyone who can afford it pays it and meets Hilda Back.
I hope her team are able to educate her on how this public figure things work.
I can imagine the disappointment on those who had planned to be there.

    3. Legal trainee indeed, why not state it explicitly in the contract, why do it after?

    4. Legal Trainee, I strongly disagree with you.
First of all, contracts are not cast in stone. There's always a Termination clause in every contract. In this clause, the parties will state the events that will be a ground for termination of the contract, and the consequences thereof.
However assuming there is none, contracts can be set aside for several reasons such as illegality, fraud, misrepresentation etc.
In Hilda's case, she can simply rely on
      Misrepresentation.
As a legal Trainee, you know that misrepresentation is a false statement of a material fact made by one party which affects the other party's decision in agreeing to a contract. If the misrepresentation is discovered, the contract can be declared void.

Going by Hilda's version, the contract was only signed on the basis that people will not pay such whooping amount to see her. Upon her discovery of the matter, she promptly refunded the money, thus absolving herself of any liability.

Curiously, Hilda may even have a right of action against the event planners for defamation and malicious misrepresentation of facts.

Finally, there will always be a place for sentiments in business.

      Cheers Counsel.
