NLC Shuns Meeting With Nigerian Govt To Resolve Subisdy Removal...

The Nigeria labour congress on Sunday May 4, 2023 shunned a meeting with the Federal govt of Nigeria to resolve the Fuel subsidy removal..They totally refused to attend the meeting and I am wondering why!

I have seen labour union strike in other Countries and they do not do it to shut down the Economy, they space the strikes to warn the government and they do it once a week and not indefintiely...

IT IS ONLY IN NIGERIA YOU HEAR THE LABOUR UNION threatening to shut down the economy without thinking of the consequences on the consequences...... Do they have a stake in the subsidy money? Are they not fighting for the masses? Then why refuse to dialogue?

If you really understand the way they have been MILKING Nigeria, you will understand why subsidy had to go, and to remove it you need to hit the ground running!

Labour Union, go and dialogue with the government, go and fight for the masses....Abi another person don settle una to cause havoc to make the govt look bad?

  1. True. Subsidy has to go. But why won't the government announce an increase in minimum wage as fast as they announced the end of subsidy? Let them at least announce a plan , even if the implementation will take a month or 2. You can't just say subsidy has gone and minimum wage is still at 30k

  2. Na person wey never never know government go answer them when they say come for dialogue. Trust me Stella, they can drag that dialogue till end of June. The NLC knows what it is doing.

There is subsidy on fuel till end of June, so why are we suffering it now. You casually announced it, so in that same casual manner, remove it till the end of June. I know how much I paid to the office today. Peculiar Allowance that was given to us, our tax was increased by a hundred percent. On a normal, they were not supposed to increase tax especially as the allowance is not salary, still they did and even by 100%.

  3. I don't agree with this your write up. Other countries work and have better packages for their citizens. A president cannot just in his first inaugural speech remove the subsidy on fuel without thinking of the consequences on the citizens. Why must the masses pay for the failures of APC Government?. Why don't they start recouping the money they squandered by cutting their salaries, reducing their useless convoy, reducing their bogus sitting allowances, Kitchen allowances etc. I bet you if the money is removed from the subsidy, Nigerians will not benefit a shishi from it. When Goodluck Jonathan wanted to remove it, it was Tinubu and Wole Soyinka that led the protest against it. I STAND WITH LABOUR UNION. Prices of goods and services have skyrocketed immediately what is the Government doing about it

    2. 9:42, you are making the same ignorant statement many Nigerians are making. The new administration did not remove fuel subsidy. The previous did and mentioned it will take effect in June. They also did not make provision for subsidy in the 2023 budget.

Will PMS marketers claim they didn’t see the budget?

Buhari and team planned that it will take effect in June, cos he would have left office then.

I only fault Tinubu for the way he announced it. He forgot that Nigerians don’t pay attention to details and many did not study the budget. His announcement should have reminded Nigerians that the previous administration planned to remove subsidy and did not make provisions for it in the budget. Then he should have called for a meeting with stakeholders and put palliatives in place to cushion the effects.

    3. Even when the previous administration was responsible for removal of subsidy, does the president of the country not have the power to reverse it? There is no excuse for this present government. Why should the masses suffer for the problems they created? They are wicked!

  4. It is not clear to me what NLC is fighting for. It is for the subsidy to continue or for minimum wage to be increased? Someone please help me with answer if you know. Thank

  5. You were making an inaugural speech and you announced subsidy removal. Like, what do these people take Nigerians for?

They keep behaving like they indeed don't care. In this hard country your successor and party man have put the country into, you made no provisions for the aftetmath of the so called subsidy and fiam, you announced it. Is it not the same subsidy GEJ removed in 2015 and the APC led by tinubu and NLC shut down the country for almost a week! Now, he is doing same now but it is okay, cause it is Jagaban. May God bless Nigeria and save us from wicked and insensitive leaders. Thats all i can say.

Tufiakwa for this APC led government. The people's children they opened fire on at the lekki toll gate can never ever make me stand them even if a hundred peter obi is their flag bearer. What if my son was in that place that day! Just what if he didn't leave by 5pm......

    Wicked souls

  6. Nigerians are the problem of Nigeria. We don’t pay attention to details and we intentionally refuse to be informed.if we want to be honest with ourselves,we will all admit that it will get and look worse before it will get better with Nigeria and we will all pay our fair share for fuel and electricity.let’s be patient,it will eventually work out soon

    1. Really? I wonder when it will get better. It keeps getting worse in this country under their administration. People who don’t really care for the welfare of the citizens. Why would a sane human being remove subsidy without making adequate provisions. Roads are bad, poor electricity, under employment, poor salaries, hike in prices of items and so on. In many parts of the country, no provision for government transport system such as BRT buses in Lagos, among others. It is only in Nigeria that the government feels comfortable to suffer the masses for the perceived good of the nation, yet they expect people to continue to suffer and smile

If NLC is for the people. They should calm down and hear what the government has to say. The subsidy has to go. But what next. How do we get out of this quagmire? 🤔

Nigerians are mean. The effect of the subsidy is for end of June. But petrol stations have already hiked the price. It is well.

    1. They probably hiked the prices so they can have enough to purchase the unsubsidized fuel when their own is finished.
