The naira appreciated by 1.79 per cent against the United States dollar on the Investor & Exporter forex window on Tuesday, closing at N756.61/$. On Monday, local currency slumped to 770.38/$ at the close of trading on the I&E window on Monday, from 686.96/$ at the close of trading on Friday.


 The Department of State Services, on Tuesday, urged the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, to dismiss the fundamental rights suit filed by the suspended and detained Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele. Emefiele filed the suit, through his lawyer, J.B. Daudu, to demand his freedom, alleging that the DSS had been detaining him unlawfully.

Gunmen, on Monday, kidnapped the Oba of Idofin, Shedrack Obibeni, and a yet-to-be-identified man and his wife in the Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State.
According to reports, the victims were kidnapped around 5pm along the Makutu-Idofin Road in Kogi State.

The Benue State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has showered praise on the former governor of the state, Samuel Ortom, for honouring the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s invitation for questioning over his eight years tenure in office.  A Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed July 20 for judgment in a suit filed by Leader of proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, against the Department of State Services (DSS) to allow him unhindered access to his medical doctor. Justice Binta Nyako fixed the date after Kanu’s counsel, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), and lawyer to the DSS, A. M. Danlami, adopted their processes and presented their arguments for and against the suit.

 Police in Bayelsa State have arrested 11 suspected kidnappers and armed robbers who have been terrorizing different parts of the state. Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa State, Mr Romokere Ibani, while parading the suspects at the police headquarters in Yenagoa on Tuesday, said the command’s strategies have helped in achieving results in fighting crime in the state.
