Flood Submerges Houses In Abuja

 Oh My God!!!!

About 116 houses were affected on Friday in Abuja after an early morning rain flooded the Trademore Estate along the Airport Road.

While there were concerns that at least one life was lost in the incident, the Director General of the Federal Capital Territory FCT Emergency Management Agency FEMA, Dr Abbas G.Idriss said no life was lost.

Noting that the floods at Trademore Estate were caused by infractions on the water channel, Idriss appealed to residents whose houses are built on the water channel to relocate.
The Head, Public Affairs at FEMA, Nkechi Isa quoted her boss as saying that the Trademore estate is on a water channel and therefore prone to floods.

According to Idriss, the floods have however receded, appreciating all stakeholders and residents for their efforts and cooperation at Trademore Estate to ensure that no life was lost.

He dismissed as untrue social media reports alleging that a resident of the Estate was missing during the floods.
Nothing that the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency NIHSA had predicted heavy floods in the FCT, this rainy season, the FEMA boss appealed to residents of the Estate whose houses sit on the water channel to relocate.
He urged residents to always use the 112 Emergency toll free number in the event of an emergency.

  4. We like to cause problems for others and don't care about others just for money. That trademore estate was built on water way. The drainage system from Abuja city goes through trademore so every year when it rains the drainage water spills over and goes thru trademore. Trademore was built on a major drainage channel so it floods every year! The owner of trademore is to blame. I pity people who bought houses there. The houses are not cheap o.

    1. But who passed the plans and allowed it to go through? Buyers do not have geological knowledge of an area. Heads should roll about this. The residents should file a class action lawsuit on the developers even the government body who authorized the project. Foolishness. Flooded up to the roof, so everything is ruined and they will have to foot the cleaning bill and deal with vermin and raw sewage.

    2. Please don't do copy and paste mentality, do your research!

I have been living in that estate since I moved to Abuja in 2012. I left to my own house. It was approved mortgaged facility handled by FMB. How come it never flooded until 2021???

No one wanted to live around there at first until 2017. Then the land boom began. Houses selling for 9m at that time started going for minimum 25m.

There are canals that no one built on until greedy land grabbers blocked the canal and built on it around Trademoore so when it rains, where does it go?? It overflows!!!

And who gets affected the most is Trademoore. The flooded area is just 2percent of the estate not the entire estate.

And it gets worse...NEMA is filled people who can't even swim came to demolish some houses saying is the issue, of which they were even selecting cos they were sorted and it still didn't work!.

Oyibo will go and find the source of the water to know why it overflows but NEMA with their staff that only came to take pics to show the world that they are working, will tell you to relocate cos they can't afford compensating owners for their loss inspite of monies allocated for such purposes.

Also, people died this time around. They only came to evacuate them. I don't know why they are lying.

To recap...the last flood was in 2021 not every year. Factcheck before you post.

    2. Lol..

    3. Stop the cap please. Your projections are not only unrealistic and untrue but made up.

Rent there is depending on the house and how it was built. Won't bother stating statistics so ask your numerous friends. The minimum is 1.5m for a 3bedroom.

And based on your level, your friend rented a self con of 250k -300k that he probably took. No house will go for 2m in Trademoore even with a family man unless your paying for the BQ and even at that it's not up 2m.

It happened in 2021 and not every year. If you can concoct stories, you can atleast Google 🙄

Don't bother replying. Just tired of people lying unnecessarily about a place you have never been to or can afford.

    4. You can get a 3 bedroom for 1.5m in trademore estate. It’s not that expensive.
In my estate here in Gwarinpa, 3 bed, starts from 3.5m, self contained apartments, from 900k minus service charge which is 100k.

    5. Anon 16:14,house rent depends on the house. My friend lives in gwarinpa and pays #400k for a self contained apartment with full options😎😎,
So,in essence ,rent varies from that amount and she lives close to Charly boy.

  9. This is tragic. Dealing with flooding is one of those things I never want to experience. The thought of raw sewage everywhere just grosses me out.

I hope the home owners seek retribution against the spurious builders who decided to build homes in an obvious no build zone. What a yearly stress for these folks. Won’t the foundations eventually loosen and compromise the structural integrity of the homes if the place is constantly flooding? We really have to be praying and seeking divine guidance even in real estate purchases

  10. Nawaoooo
Imagine how it was when the earth was ended with rainfall and flood

  11. That estate is a nightmare. This people will pack out but another set of people that heard of this news will still pay and pack in. I almost tripped and fell the day an agent took me there to show me a house, I got angry and didn't go back there. Government will come and mark the houses for demolition to sought this problems but people will beg and sought and curse and wail. That's why It keeps happening and reoccurring.
