Actress Toyin Abraham Explains Why Her New Movie IJAKUMO Is Getting Bad Reviews

Actress Toyin Abraham's new movie trended on Twitter an Sunday June 25, 2023 and majority of the reviews were really bad while some were good and others were undecided about the movie.

Triggered by the negative reviews she tweeted

“You all went to create WhatsApp group because of *******. Please continue.
Maybe today I will kuku break the table. You all will tell the world why choosing my own candidate is a crime and yours isn’t. Loni yi mo mura yin wa (today I’m prepared for you).
“You all think you have monopoly to talk sh*t; I’m here today for those people in that WhatsApp group. ******* was accepted in USA and Odeon cinemas and was showing same time Nigerian cinemas were showing it. I might keep mute for other things, but when it comes to my work, I will speak out.”

She later apologised for her outburst and asked critics to critique "with love."

  4. The criticisms are valid. You cannot be in an industry for so long and still content to put out mediocre sub-par material. If you are doing b-movies then do not try to dress them up as blockbusters. I watch b-movies, student films, foreign films, low budget films, I am willing to give everything a watch but be honest with your level and stay in your lane. It could’ve been great but mediocrity and low standards won again.

    1. The truth is that she never takes corrections and isn’t willing to improve her craft
It’s not by putting the best actors, sometimes invest in your storylines
Most of the time the endings are rushed
I personally dint watch this one, but your other movies are nothing to write home about, you are a good actor but your movies… I can’t say same.
      Wo
It’s not about your candidate, if you put an interesting movie like “sista” nobody can trash it
      But would you listen? No
Tomorrow you’d still put another one again.

    1. Your first line would have been enough, but you just had to show your self.

      "..... because of her choice"

So she can choose to make a trashy movie and hype it as good. Take it to the cinemas and make people waste their hard earned money to buy tickets and watch it or make people download it with their data? Head dey pay you.

    1. Movies produced/directed by Funke Akindele, Jade Osiberu, Kunle Afolayan, Tunde Kilani, and Femi Jacobs, I'll gladly watch. Not all of them are craps.

    2. I watched Battle on Buka street twice at the cinema. Funke Akindele is the only actor that makes me go to the cinema to watch a Nigerian movie.
I've met Toyin and I think she's a pleasant lady, very respectful & full of life but I've only seen her in a few skits. I always read lacklustre reviews about her movies so I don't bother.

      Delete
    3. Call me anything. But I won't pay a dime to watch any Nigerian movie in the cinema except if it has my sweetheart Genevieve Nnaji.
Back to Ijakumo, to be honest this movie is a total waste of time and energy. After watching it, I wonder why someone as powerful as she's been depicted had to use a stripper to go get the so called flash drive in the pastor's house when she could have use her power to go get it herself.
The Dada she was carrying was a total turn off. I've seen people who never cut theirs, and it wasn't that long like she depicted in her movie. Anyways, when she does something that's worth applauding I'm sure people will applaud her.

Toyin, when are you going to accept your movies are too shallow?
Way before the election people have been complaining about your movies. What have you done to improve? Nothing.

Anyway, nah una dey lead naija. I'm sure this your outburst will produce a fat check from the top... to appease you and silence your "haters"

Everyone that watched it rated it poor storyline. Storyline not matching the title of movie.

    3. Your second paragraph, that was what I was about to type. You are one of my favorites but you produce subpar movies year in year out except maybe safe for your old Alakada original but the rest have been rubbish, take corrections okay?

  14. It’s a very useless and meaningless movie. Complete waste of data

  15. Dear Toyin,
In all honesty all your movies are sub par even according to Nigerian standard. However you are not alone…I recently watched Battle on Buka Street and I still don’t get the hype…sub par everything!
I think it’s safe to say that Nigerians pay money to watch these “comedies” as an avenue to laugh and get some relief from the stress in the country.

That said, you all should do better. Take a cue from the likes of Biodun Stephen and Uduak they don’t claim millions in cinema revenues but their stories are interesting and relatable…simple, clean.

    1. That's the sad thing for me. Each time Biodun Stephen releases a movie, it hardly sales like those rawbish that some people produce yet their rawbish sells more.

  16. The tech scenes, which to my opinion makes technology seem like a child's play. Like you don't practically have to do anything to get results. Like You just have to punch some random keyboards and you open a high tech locks in a seconds. That scene actually makes a joke out of those locks. An ordinary padlock will be safer.

I skipped the shooting part though. Not up to par at all. It seems she has seen too much of bollywood movies🤣🤣🤣.

And what's up with that long dread???

But I like the storyline. It is an old storyline but she chipped in some modern modifications. Kunle Remi really did well in the movie.

    My two cents

  17. Why is she crying, I thought she has massive fans both home and abroad that would gladly watch and support her movies, according to her? Why is she now dragging obidients into her mess? Toyin I know has never produced any meaningful movie.

Kunke Remi shld align himself like stan Nze with producers that produce good movies.
Check the likes of stan Nze,his wife, kachi Nnochiri, uzor arukwe, ray emordi,
ebube nwagbo their movies with these producers hits million likes on YouTube

TOYIN ABRAHAM really tried in this movie...kudos to her. I actually enjoyed the moview. First time I will ever finish a nigerian movie sef. Good job Toyin.

The only thing I will change if asked to is the length of her hair. It was very disturbing.
For me, she did a wonderful job !

    3. I live in the US ( since we want to be emphasizing our geographical location) and the movie is terrible. I was expecting to be disappointed based on her previous movies and my disappointment was not disappointed. Her acting needs improvement, her story line needs refurbishing, all the ass and nudity in the movie could not make up for the porosity of the story line, you could poke holes everywhere like a basket.
Toyin, please please please the only quality movie you've produced is Alakada and honestly it seemed like a copy of Jenifa. You are not in competition with Fuke Akindele, you are special in your own way. Go back to the drawing board, focus on your story line and produce something worth watching.

  27. I’m not going to watch or critique Toyin’s movie either. Leave obedients alone, they don’t have time to watch your movie. They have better things to do. It is agbados that watched your movie that is critiquing you. If you are looking for fat check from agbado master say so. Don’t use indirect way to go.

  28. Oh puhlease, movie consumers always critic movies they don't like and when the movie is very bad, it gets terrible reviews. When Chief Daddy 2 got terrible reviews, did it mean Mo Abudu was political? It was so bad that she basically had to issue a public apology, because making people waste time and money on entertainment that is mediocre is worthy of criticism. At least she listened to the criticism and got better. Even before politics, your movies are usually ridden with negative reviews. I understand that criticism may be a bitter pill for you as producer, but it's equally painful for consumers.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I actually really enjoyed this movie.
People are to critical of others and perhaps have something personal against her, maybe due to her political views. Based on the Ijakumo movie. I loved it and Kunle Remi delivered 💯 .

I hardly give reviews and not a nollywood fan.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Me I loved the Movie.. I don't like her anymore but Iiked the move.
It is better than Buka Street

  31. Stop hating Funke and her fans. Critic with love...Toyin abi na Tinubu cos am ....when do you have time for movies while chasing greener pastures with tinubu....take time produce good content

    ReplyDelete
  32. Saying it as it is the story line is below weak. All in the bid to get a thumb drive and at the end using traditional power to finish the work. For your efforts sha we say well done. She, kunle, the stripper delivered well but she lost touch with what she wanted to achieve with the outcome of the story.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm honestly shocked she made such a statement. The Nigerian elite continually falls hands no matter the expectations one has of them. My dear Toyin, Obidients don't owe you anything..zilch, nada. Stop using us for clout and PR. We are too busy in court to form whatsapp group on top a Nigerian movie wey how many people go watch when cost of living is at an all time high!!! Leave your bubble and come to the streets. The everyday Nigerian can't afford the luxury of entertainment. Before politics, many were already boycotting your movies due to bad reviews or rivalry with your competitors and their fans. Has nothing to do with OBIdients, we no care and your rant won't make us.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I've seen both Ijakumo and Battle on Buka Street and to be honest I think Battle is overhyped. Very chaotic and most of the cast were overacting. But cos it is Funke nobody would see that. As for Ijakumo I loved it at the cinemas and was happy to watch again on Netflix. I think it is a pretty decent film. Just that I didn't like the adverts and yes I think I kind of agree the reason the movie is being bashed is cos she supported Tinubu openly. And perhaps cos peeps already believe she makes sub-par films cos of Alakada series. Let peeps be honest.
Even my family that can't stand nollywood movies applauded Ijakumo last nite after we watched.

    ReplyDelete
  35. And she is right if we are honest, the movie is a 6/10 for me sha but we all know the people championing the negative criticism, they are the obedient people, the new lovers of Nigeria, the people who lack every atom of sense in all they are doing, the new fascist of Nigerian politics.

    1. That's the most surprising thing. After I tried so hard to watch her movie with denrele (I think) on Netflix and could not get past 5 minutes, I gave up on her movies. She is an average actress, but I can never try to watch any movie she produces, total waste of time
