Actress Omotola Jalade Says Nollywood Movies Introduced Nigerian Entertainment To The World

Do you agree with her? She wants you to name the movies you know......

  1. Introduced what to what?
Lolllll, is it Nigerian movies that ghost will be eating boli? Abi the ones that will be speaking as if burning peppered yam is in their mouth, 7 accents in one sentence. Or is the one where they will reading their lines as if they are reading their script?
Which Nigerian movie can you genuinely say is at par with any international movie.
    Which one.
It's okay to have faves but don't celebrate mediocrity.
And just to say, many of the so called actors/actresses you are gushing over need serious acting classes. Serious one.

    1. From what I remember, Nigerian music was first to go international before Nigerian movies. Nigerian music did not go international because of Burna boy, wizkid etc. Nigerian music has already gone international before they were even born with musicians like Fela, Sunny Ade, Osita Osadebe etc. it's just on a bigger scale now and reaches a lot more people with the use of technology.

  2. In a way, I keep craving for old nollywood than these new ones. The news have developed,no doubt. But something seems lacking,I don't see the "Nigerianess" in it,our culture seems lost in these movies.
When I watched Genevieve and Ramsey or Stephanie and Emeka Ike,it may long for true love but now they make love seem like sex,u can't even watch most of these new nollywood with your kids without being afraid of the next scene. Even our village scene is now sophisticated.I see myself looking for old nollywood movies. Omotola and co really did well

  3. Not true, Afrobeat music by late Fela introduced Nigeria entertainment to the world, but I understand you Tola, you are just so excited that Nollywood has come far and you are right.

  7. She's right but to an extent though.

The world knew highlife, egwu ekpili and afrobeats before Nollywood films.
Problem was there were no interpretations but Nollywood came with subtitles (with some poor grammar), that people adhered to while watching and love for Nigerian entertainment and culture blew up.

If Omotola walks the streets of Kenya or Brazil without proper security details she may likely be mobbed.
    The love is massive.
My mummy in-law is among those in Enugu who changed her name (ignorantly because they couldn't pronounce it) to Amatala. Haha.
Babe is good in her craft.

  11. Ligali sisters
Amos Tutuola when it comes to the written word
Keresimesi... I forget now the name of the musician
The late Timi of Ede and his band of drummers who toured the West
    Ayinla Omowura
    Haruna Ishola
Even before SunnyAde who was nominated for a Grammyat a point, IK Dairo, Ebenezer Obey before beats like Fela's. Na from my side in West Africa I say list o, who made their own international exposure themselves.

I decided to leave Tunde Kelani and Tade Ogidan and their fathers like Herbert Ogunde,Pa Ogunmola, Adebayo Faleti etc who conquered the world stage before the internet to focus on music alone.

Let us leave out the south Africans whose struggle further pushed their art. Story long.

New Nollywood that Alade Aromire midwifed with home videos, you are standing on broad shoulders. Take your flowers and leave their own.

  12. She's right, in a manner of speaking. Nigerians were already out there individually but one can say that Nollywood brought focus on Nigeria and her entertainment industry as a whole.
