Actress Chacha Eke Says She Used Destroy Properties When Her Mental Health Illness Surfaced

In a video she shared online, actress Chacha Eke-Faani revealed another incident caused by her mental health challenge.

She said, “To be frank if the disorder that I have been battling with didn’t sufficiently disgrace me to the point that it has, chances are I won’t be here championing it.
My psychiatrist was my biggest nightmare, I wish I could k** him because it was him for the first time after years of manic episodes, after years of violence, it was from his mouth I heard the name of what was wrong with me and I was pained.
I left an ugly experience in Enugu in the Hotel where I smashed everything, wrecked the whole hotel, and reduced everything that my family had only what we were wearing. I went untreated.
Two years we came to Asaba and I had another manic. This time I wrecked the whole house. It was a habit, at some point we didn’t have house properties because it was only a matter of months before I wreck it.
He took me to FDAH and after some days, he came and gave me the verdict, the diagnosis. I didn’t like taking drugs so I flushed them down the toilet when they discharged me. I had another relapse and they put me back in the hospital”.

  10. I am glad she is actually using her platform to talk about mental illness. There are a lot of people battling with this in Nigeria who are too ashamed to even face the fact that they're ill and seek medical help.
Please continue speaking up, I wish you healing.

  11. Mental illness is real, I pray more awareness should reach some remote areas in Nigeria where they believe everything is spiritual.

I understand your plight Chacha, my sister once suffered the illness and I know what it caused my family, properties were destroyed and thrown away, my international passport, my oldies cassette, my late father photo hanged on the wall, clothes and so many other things were parts of the things we lost during the phase, everyone in the family felt it, it took prayers and going for treatment and counseling at psychiatric hospital for her to regain her health, so I salute you for talking about your experience.

  12. I wonder why some of you are saying she's talking too much. These things need to be said as most of us do not know mental illness is real. There's no talking too much about this particular topic. It needs to be heard as much as possible

    1. It's just annoying, really

I am diagnosed with ADHD --- not ADHD the way every Nigerian who can't remember where they left their phone think they have ADHD. I know the rage I feel, how easily I snap, how easily I get frustrated, how as a professional I have to read something over and over and over again before I send it, how easily I get distracted, how I can go weeks without any motivation or passion for anything, how I can become obsessed with the most pedestrian thing, how I ask one question over and over and over again, how I can get stuck in a loop in my head.... I could go on.

Let people who are neurodivergent tell their stories without you neurotypicals asking them to shut up.

  15. Thank you Chacha for bringing this to the limelight and educating the public.

So many Nigerians are going through different forms of mental illness but they term it jazz.

Most times, mental illness is genetic and sometimes trauma or stress can trigger it.

  16. Mental illness that Nigerian parents hide their kids as a result, chacha is talking about it freely, kudos to her. I wish others can stop hiding and go for treatment.

  19. They are "yawning" and writing "internet never forgets" because their agenda of the husband being the "evil person" didn't agend, someone that is suffering from a serious mental disorder is airing out her issues so that people can learn from it and maybe be more understanding to some people that might be close to them and also suffering from the disorder but blockheads don't want to learn.
