    1. Eka,

      No!!! Let's call a spade a spade.

GEJ should apologise for not having the gall to have done it when ALL oil producing countries including Nigeria earned the highest p.b ever earned in history!!!

The earnings and margins would have easily cushioned the effect for the citizens at the time.

However, I'm not one to dwell in "might/should have beens". The fmr President did what he thought was best at the time .

Let's move on and pray that things work out for us as a country eventually.

I'm not expecting returns in a short term, that's not feasible but i believe that there will be economic growth. By GOD'S grace!

    2. You are being petty as usual and still stuck with the pain of Jonathan's defeat. Even Labour joined in the protest then, so rest! Jonathan's government is still partly responsible for the failure in the oil sector today that Buhari has begun fixing.

People didn’t understand back then what subsidy removal was all about and its benefit, just as some still don’t understand why it should be removed now. A lot of education and enlightenment has been made for us to arrive at this point. And a lot more needs to be done to educate Nigerians esp members of the headless mob like yourself who are still against its removal and living in the past.

This is also the reason why everyone needs to understand which movement or protest they’re joining. Don’t just follow a bandwagon like Endsars and OBIdients and be shouting new "New Nigeria", "Take back our country", like headless Chickens upandan. Think for yourself and be enlightened.

  2. Senator Shehu Sanni is making sense, honestly, the subsidy removal was long overdue.

  3. I know that a good number of people here like this man's post. Not necessarily because they like him, but since he has posted anti PMB comments for years.

I do hope that you all will like this post as well.

It will be hard! Very hard! But subsidy must go. And there will never be a good time, so let's stop kidding ourselves, and stop reading comments from wannabe economists!

  4. What is stopping them from making our Refineries functional? Are we not supposed to be exporting both crude and refined products. Everybody knows that removal of fuel subsidy is long overdue, but what happens to putting measures on ground to cushion the effect? Not until they do that, that I will know they really mean well for this country

    1. Modakat,

And in the short term? The monies they are paying out can be deployed else where which may in turn "cushion".

    2. The rehabilitation of the PH and Warri refineries are almost complete. That of Kaduna refinery is ongoing. Walter Smith and Dangote refineries will soon start producing PMS. BUA group is building a 250k barrel refinery in Akwa Ibom which will be functional next year. The Siemens Power Project Is ongoing and we'll soon have enough power in Nigeria. These and many more are measures on ground to cushion the effect. Government didn't just wake up now and decide to remove it. They announced it since last year and have been putting in work to cushion the effect. You weren't just following cause you prolly were busy shouting "take back our country" all over the place 🙄

    3. Oga /Madam, You think in your small mind that the funds they would not be using to pay for subsidy, that you will see it working somewhere? in this country....? I don't know why you guys keep deceiving yourselves. What concerned me this morning is that instead of paying 300/400, I paid 700. You mean you cannot see the ripple effect of this abrupt subsidy removal?

    4. Modakat,

Seems that you lack communication etiquette. You responded exactly the way misinformed people do.

I believe there's no point trying to educate you.

    5. @modakat,please enlighten them. All these wannabe economists who rely on the nonsense they read on the news without checking with reality.
All these so called monies that will be realized by the subsidy removal as they think in their mind, will only be diverted for themselves. if not all, then part of it.
I'm only pained because we,the masses will be hit terribly the most. It's already happening like you said.
God help us, the sensible ones.

    6. Thank you 🙏 @Modakat! The subsidy is for the ordinary man! That was is their own benefits! The infrastructure they will still not see, so it’s safer to still have the subsidies in my place. They just want to suffer the masses!

    7. With the removal of subsidy, the buyer is king and prices will automatically be more competitive since there are options. The public refineries will have to be privatized to she for competition because there's just no point to it anymore. Even bunkering will reduce because it is taking money from and competing with those who have invested. Even if angel Michael had become president, subsidy and parallel dollar market have to go.

  5. Me nor even understand 1% of what he said. Once I see huge figures like the above that Nigeria is spending, it gives me headache because I know it sinking us deeper inside a hole.

    1. Bianca, at least you have the decency to admit that you don't understand it.

But people like Modakat are busy "forming woke".

      Delete
    2. Anon 13:23, which Modakat is forming woke? Transportation fare has doubled where I am, as of today. Fuel price has more than doubled here. Do you know what that means? It means every other commodity will rise in price, same with the price of services. You guys are saying this refinery and that refinery will SOON be up and running. Hello! The people are already feeling the effects of the subsidy removal. Those refineries ought to have been up and running before they removed the subsidy. Let's be practical in our analysis, mbok

    3. Anon 13:23; You think I will come here to banter words with you. You that are either paid or believe that you will be paid to launder their stupidity/wickedness in this country? Calling white black and black, white... speaking big english with no meaning, confusing and deceiving people, knowing fully well your devilish motives. You will all reap what you are sowing in this country!

    4. @ modakat,Amen to prayers.
The people speaking all these balderdash in the name of ITK,are mainly people who either laze and sleep at home or people who barely work but receive grants. The harsh reality of what's going on now is yet to hit them. But it surely will.Very soon.

    1. The whole Nigeria fought it not this govt. Labour Party was even the main party that kicked against it.

    2. Anon 14:55..it was the Labour Union(NLC) not labour party.
      Stop all the misinformation.

    3. The buck falls at the president's table. If Goodluck was too weak and Buhari too bad at prioritizing it instead of focusing on the fiasco of naira recoloring, thank God someone had the balls to put his foot down.

  7. Yes, subsidy must go but what are the steps taken to cushion the effects? We saw how Nigeria almost tore itself apart during the cash crunch and fuel crisis early this year. In less than 24 hours after the inauguration, fuel queues has appeared all over the nation. This will translate to high prices of foodstuff and every other thing. Nobody will increase salary so how will the middle class and lower class cope? Ironic that this should have happened when Jonathan was president but Tinubu and Buhari chose to Occupy Nigeria. Interesting days ahead. My joy is that everybody will partake of the shege. Even those that think they are immune from suffering because they share the same tribe with the present President.

    2. Godbless you. I bought fuel at #5.50.00 per liter & the cost of transportation has increased. Whatever they like let them talk & their supporters I am one of those that will hit the streets to protest if the government doesn't get his acts together. They suffering is becoming too much. Now all die na die no going back

    3. You are the one planning for and expecting shege and you went be disappointed.

  8. A lot of Nigerians aren't self-aware even tho they think they are. It is shocking how many Nigerians didn’t know that the outgoing administration removed Subsidy since last year January and that it'll officially begin in July 2023. PBAT only stated what has been signed and passed into law.

  9. If only GEJ had the pluck to do it then, by today we won't be here wailing.

    1. He did do it and we all stupidly entered the physical street and social media street. We all frustrated this man to hell because of this thing that is now being done by the same cabal that fought him tirelessly for this. May God forgive us all

    2. Exactly blackberry.

    3. @Eka,you're right. These same cabal running the new govt were amongst same set of people that fought against Jonathan's decision then, even feeding the public with false information to back their misdeeds then
Oh! How ignorant many of us Nigerians were then Some of us fought it ,tooth and nails then.
And here we are today. May God help us even as we,the sensible ones help ourselves.

    4. No street protests could have removed his signature from any document removing subsidy. Enough of these excuses for the failure of a weakling.
