Actor Saint Obi Reportedly Died A Sad Lonely Man

Last week Saturday ended with the shocking news of the death of a Nollywood veteran, Obinna Nwafor, more popularly known as Saint Obi.

Naturally many struggled to believe that the shy, quiet, self-effacing actor was no more, but as the days passed, it dawned on many who had refused to come to terms with his death that he is indeed gone.

Unknown to many, Saint Obi had passed on a week before the announcement of his death. He died in one of his sister’s home in Jos, Plateau but news of his death was suppressed by his siblings (Saint Obi is the only son among eight sisters) for reasons best known to them.

Prior to his death, the 57 year-old actor suffered from a protracted illness but being a man with a very quiet personality, this wasn’t made public as only a few of his very close friends and colleagues knew this. Saint Obi had gone through multiple surgeries, but his health wasn’t improving.

This prompted the elder sister in whose home he died, to move him to Jos, where he could be given proper treatment. But he died from the illness. It would be right to say that this illness was triggered by the sadness that enveloped him as a result of the crisis he experienced in his marriage.

In 2006, Saint Obi decided to give marriage a second trial when he tied the knot with a certain lady named Lynda Amobi, a senior member of staff of MTN Nigeria. He was previously married to the daughter of a cleric, but the marriage was short lived.

He was married to Lynda for 15 years, during which they were blessed with children. However, at some point in their marriage, things began to fall apart and in 2021, the marriage tragically came to an end. All through the period cracks appeared in their marriage, the couple managed to keep a lid on the crisis until the marriage packed up.

Saint Obi initiated the divorce proceedings when he could no longer bear the psychological and physical torture of remaining married to Lynda. Despite having made a success of his career, his in-laws regarded him as a gold digger for marrying their sister who had a good job.

He was harassed and fought on several occasions by his in-laws right inside his matrimonial home. But he refused to challenge them or speak out about his ordeal, save to a few close friends.

The divorce was filed on the basis of an alleged attempt on his life, orchestrated by Lynda and her brothers, Michael and Chukwumobi Amobi, in a suit filed at the High Court of Ogun State with suit number HCT/128/2019. But Lynda did everything possible to sabotage the process. She repeatedly failed to appear in court when the case was called up, causing the Judge to at some point, issue a bench warrant for her arrest.

Also, Lynda blocked all access through which Saint Obi could see and spend time with his children, including hiring mobile police officers to prevent him from having access to them. This was too much for him to bear. T

he failure of his second marriage, being unable to see his children demoralised him to no end. He lost his zeal for life. For a man who was not very sociable, he withdrew completely into his shell as depression gnawed at him.

Efforts by some of his older, contemporary and even younger colleagues to draw him out of his shell and get him to do what he loves to do – acting, proved abortive. He turned down movie roles each time he was offered any but kept going on and on about his family, particularly his children.

The depression affected his health from which he never recovered from.

  2. ITKs will keep nudging Linda to talk. Some people are really busy bodies. Whoever wrote this deserves some 24 lashes with phone charger. I don’t know what went on in their marriage, but if you divorce me and take the case outside lagos to punish me. Best believe I won’t be showing up.
Writing that sadness from his marriage caused him this incurable illness in other words, his wife killed him is a lie from the pit of hell.
If you move out from our matrimonial home, and threaten to take the kids, I’ll get police officers. If you don’t like it, sue me to court. In court/legally I’ll gladly give you shared custody.
His sisters are wise. Be kind to your only brothers widow else you might not have a relationship with his children.

Linda has investments running into hundreds of millions of naira and dollars

I dislike when people write rubbish because someone is their hero or a popular face. His separation led to numerous surgries and death? HABA MY COUNTRY PEOPLE! Haaaaa!

What I know is that Saint's enemies want his wife to come out and expo everything that happened. They are deliberately poking her so she will open mouth and destroy the late actor's reputation. Na only people wey no know the inside story dey make this monstrous noise. As for me, May God forgive him his sins and grant him eternal rest in peace, Amen.

My deepest condolences to his family and kids.

And your last paragraph indirectly confirmed that the sisters' published statement was not made out of free will, but to get access to the children.

It is the women who always vaunt the male child and his children in a family. But it is the women who complain the most about gender discrimination.

Are the sisters' children not children in the Nwafor's homestead that they are now wise because they need to patronize anyone for access to of the three children of Saint Obi?

  4. He is dead and gone! No need for all these long stories! I was not there, and I can't judge anyside! But if truly the ex wife kept his children from him, then she and her Children will face the music! Please for estranged marriages out there! Just know that ,is on you to keep your life going in Christ! Don't let anyone use your joy and add to their own! Please know when to cut yourself loose and move on!
Do not ever let children be used to destroy your happiness! Leave them for whoever is paying them and go and live your life. Lynda you can have the children now to yourself! Depriving a man from seeing his children, will come and hunt you, because God knows how to deal with evil wicked spouses, he will ensure you get your medicine by giving them spouses, that will drive you away as well, as you did their father. Never have relationship with unforgiving people! They are messed up and they will mess you up with their bitterness.

I missed the passage in which you condemned St. Obi for his own actions. Or are you claiming that he is blameless?

    5. @16:11, the man is dead! What's the use flogging a dead horse! She is the one that held his children from seeing him. He is dead now! Did you see if truly in my statement? Ekpa! That's how illiterates on here, jump on people's comments on here! You never read to comprehend! I should go and wake Saint Obi from the mortuary to come and respond to you abi? Let me let you all know one thing, if this man was trully deprived of seeing his children, because bitterness from the ex wife! His spirit will all come for you all! People that die from this kind of stress, their spirit don't rest! My only grouse here is, did she really not allow him see his children?if she did! She and her family will pay dearly for it. I always tell people! Marriage is leaving your family and going to be with your new family.
I have a sister, that is a billionaire, who we helped and she went on to bring a useless guy, that she sponsored and the children she had for him, everywhere in the world! We left them,to their fate!
I have not finished sorting my life, is to carry another person's problem on my head! Her family should go and mould a perfect man for her!

The hand that rocked the cradle rules the world. Is this not why women fight for child custody with their souls and beings.

They married in 2006. He sued in 2019. Read the story well it is obvious the marriage had long broken down and the denial of access to the children was on before he sued. Where did the 17 years old children come from at the time he sued.

Even if the children are all 17 years, which may not be, you expect them to go look for him after being kept way from him under armed police guard for long time.

And very few women keep children without black washing their fathers.

There is no story in public so far that he was a danger to the children at any time. So why did she keep them from him. The reason is obvious. She could cater for them. So the man was dispensible. If the tables were turned, she would have called him out for abuse - economic emotional abuse.

  28. The day his wife's brothers reportedly beat him to stupor was the day he began to die. That was jungle justice. The wife had the means to involve the police and Lagos state ministry in charge of domestic violence but she chose a crude approach. From the pieces of information available online, Saint Obi never recovered from that beating. That he wasn't perfect doesn't make the alleged retaliatory beating right. God rest his soul.

    1. YEP!
He was beaten and do you know why?
He has been beating that woman like a panel beater beat a 1902 Ford classic car!! HE WAS GIVEN A TASTE OF HIS MEDICINE!
He couldn't take it and ran to report. His kids are old enough to know the truth, why didn't they call their dad? Why did the sisters come out to defend the wife when this story first broke out? Some men, not all, who are popular and marry a woman in her late 30s always have this mentality that they saved you and trash the woman's ego to the dust. Wait till you hear her side of the story.
Come to think of it, who in their right mind will sit back and watch her brothers beat her husband IF THE MAN HAVE NOT BEING HITTING THEIR SISTER? Is it because Lynda is shy and afraid of this particular thing going around? I'm kinda disappointed that Stella copied the story and paste without investigation like she said she always do.

I know I will fight to death any person that uses my sister as a practice as if they are planning to fight Anthony jousha

    2. Two men preped to beat up a man went against him. The beating was so severe he reportedly bought a gun for self protection after

A BIL said he was coming to assault his sister's husband because his sister cried a false alarm. The husband told his wife to tell him to come with 3 caskets. He didn't show up.

A self respecting man should not beat his wife. If a sister is beaten, the response is not to retaliate. If death occurs who carries the penalty. Assuming Obi had brothers where would the retaliation and counter retaliation have ended.

  35. I am a philosopher, so I have a lot to learn from this story. Life will give each of us at least a measure of blessing, as well as a measure of challenge. In our blessings, we must be grateful and in our challenges, we must trust God. This is a man who is extremely blessed. Blessed with good looks, fame (social capital), great career, beautiful wife and children. But he had challenges as well. Unfortunately, maybe or maybe not, the challenges weighed him down and he left too early.

What shapes our life is how we respond to our blessings and our challenges. In our blessings we learn to be filled with joy and gratitude to God. We also learn to share our blessings so we can also be a source of joy to others. If you receive, give and share. In our challenges, we learn patience, perseverance, trust in God, surrender and submissiveness to his will. But this is only possible when we know the Lord. He is the one who makes our suffering/challenges to be a meaningful experience where we are shaped to be better Christians' and better humans. If we don't turn to God, the evil one is there to make our challenges lead us to depression, despair and anger with God. Likewise, the devil can also in our blessings, lead us to a life of pride, vanity and self-sufficiency where we feel we don't need God anymore. If we surrender to God, we can have peace whether in lack or in plenty, in times of blessing or challenges, because no matter the circumstance, it can still work for our good and give God glory.

And this is why we must envy no one. You may see only their blessings, not knowing their challenges. If you had their life, their challenges may overwhelm or kill you. We must also be kind to all, praying for others more than we judge or criticize them. Go well Saint. None of us were there in your marriage or challenges, but we saw your blessings and talent you shared with the world, and that is what we shall remember you by.
