They say Pete should have prostrated to greet the Ooni (The way EX President Obasanjo did) but some people are arguing that Pete is a titled Chief and cannot greet anyone like that......
What do you think?

I don't know people's problem with the handshake, people keep comparing the ooni with the late ooni, they are two different individuals.Let him greet people the way he wants ....Oniagbara ooo
ReplyDeleteasin, world people and thier wahala
DeleteOoni self will not agree for Sir Pete to pistrate for him...
DeleteIf i write what i want to write, stella wont post so..
ReplyDeleteJust write it first π€
DeleteBut the truth of the matter is that pete edochie will be given a pass cos he is elderly and also a non Yoruba
ReplyDeleteExactly. The culture doesn't bind on Pete Edochie. It's not an Igbo thing or culture prostrating and again, When it's not even in the Ooni's palace.
DeleteExactly what I wanted to type Ezege. Prostrating isn't an igbo culture and Pa Pete is an elderly titled man.
DeleteAnd the king stretched his hands so no shaking.
ReplyDeleteOh you saw that. I think it's the Ooni that brought out his hand first. I see nothing wrong here. I also saw a picture of Femi Otedola shaking the Ooni with just one hand. He's a Yoruba man and he wasn't dragged but Pete.
DeleteMe I don't know oo
ReplyDeleteI didn’t come into ur home or in this case, palace, yet u want to force ur own tradition on me! Na wa oh!
ReplyDeleteYes, igbos are rude! (Shebi that’s what u want to hear) Sue us! π
You dey mind them? Everytime Igbo this, igbo that! A whole Odiegwu should bow?ππ ππ€£ Funny tribe.
Delete*A whole Odogwu...
DeleteNo be today we dey hear say we rude. An elder like Pete, who even has a bad knee will come and postrate for a child he born. Make una leave Igbo people alone oh, we didn't kill you guys in your previous life.
DeleteThey'll do, they'll still gaslight us by saying we are forming victims
Nka atom iche π€£π€£π€£
DeleteUna too worry
ReplyDeleteOni wey too waka go receive handshake! Moreover is culturally differences!Una Yoruba people fit roll for ground greet Oni! Don’t expect everyone to be bothered! Moreover, I am not Igbo.
DeleteI meant cultural differences!!! Auto correct is a bastard!!!
DeleteA titled Igbo man will only bow to his chi. Dem no dey bow for any human being.
ReplyDeleteFan Emmanuel
Loud it sister.
DeleteThey don't know that.
'Okwu'oto ekeneze'
Chief Pete is an OGBUEFI.
DeleteNO. They don't bow that's why they wield an Ofor or Akupe when they are out attending events.
πππ
DeleteTeejay, are you Igbo? I thought you are Yoruba
DeleteSome people just like to stir what is not even there. Pete is not wrong, abeg.
ReplyDeleteSame thoughts
DeleteYou dey mind them.
DeleteMy problem is this Oni wey waka about here and there. Every party , he is there . Even oloshos / yahoo yahoo boys go start inviting him now .He should sit don for palace , abi palace dey hot for him to be wandering about everywhere ???.
ReplyDeleteI'm just overjoyed he didn't kneel or bow or courtesy, we the great people of the Igbo land thank him. God bless and strengthen them all.
ReplyDeleteNa wetin happen for the handshake ?
ReplyDeleteMake I go find the video for ig
I just love the man Pete Edochie and his dance move. So intriguing and exciting at the same time. So much Aura... What a man.
ReplyDeleteThe first time I met him, his presence commanded so much respect and admiration to behold.
Ebubedike is such a great man.
Now to answer the question.
Pete didn't do anything wrong rather he showed the Ooni great respect by the back handshake he gave him thrice. That's a great traditional greetings in Igbo land.
Again, the Igbo are republicans in nature and as such everyone is a king in his own domain and can only bow to his chi(god) There is a title in Igbo land known as ''Okwu oto ekeneze''. So people should understand what that means and don't drag Ebubedike over nonsense. He's a revered titled man and a god of himself.
The people involved don't care or have our online and offline time... Both men are respected individuals
ReplyDeleteI tire. They no send us o.
DeleteAbi oooo
DeleteIt is not because they revere the Ooni, it is idleness, awoof data, stupidity and lack of boundaries that even made this an issue
DeleteWhen did prostrating become an Igbo culture? Me that is not even a titled man cannot prostrate for the Ooni, provided i didnt go to his palace to meet him.
ReplyDeleteHow can people now expect an elderly Igbo Chief to prostrate for the Ooni in a public event? E get things wey no suppose cause argument.
Honestly at your last paragraph
DeleteThis king that attends every occasion in town, birthday, burial etc.
ReplyDeleteIs it a bad thing? Una too dey criticize
Delete15:11
DeleteIt isn't a good thing, scarcity breeds value
Even if he likes he can lock himself in his castle for 20yrs any day he come outside na still handshake he go collect. Who takes a man that pack women like trophy serious
DeleteI'm even offended that the oni didn't stand to greet a whole titled red cap Igbo chief. Wasn't he aware that he was supposed to stand up and greet Odumodu the proper way? Nonsense and ingredients.
ReplyDeleteSupernova,
DeleteDon't go there please. They're both great, revered and titled men. Ooni's office is even greater to be honest with you.
We shouldn't disrespect that.
I know Teejay, I was only being sarcastic.
DeleteIgnorance of cultural diversity & Inclusivity is a huge concern for us millennials and Gen Z in Africa at this age and time? Na wa o
ReplyDeleteππππππ
DeleteTwo great men met at an event, the one sitting stretched out his hand and happily greeted the other in the latter's traditional way of greeting, in respect and solidarity. Then some jobless individuals took it upon themselves to compare and contrast what's not there to.
ReplyDeleteEven Kanayo greeted the Oni in same manner, didn't you guys see that one too? The fact that Odumodu is way older than the Oni is enough reason the Oni should accord him respect. Infact, he was star- struck to see Ebubedike 1!!
It's not about age, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo postrates before the Ooni.
DeleteIt's traditional.
Look at how the both of them are laughing in this picture with their hands stretched out to each other and tell me why I should be having such stupid arguments about prostrating.
ReplyDeleteLeave them , let them bask in irrelevant stuff when we’ve a lot to tackle as a people.
DeleteFor the people wey e dey pain for body , KOK shake am too.
ReplyDeleteIgbo ama Eze.
So some of you Yorubas actually wanted a title man like Ebubedike to disobey his own culture and obey Yoruba's own?
That's abomination.
Ooni 1st stretched out his hand for the handshake and he also did same when KOK waved at him.
The three off them were ok with the handshake, so why are you guys fighting over it.
I found this great piece on twitter and will like to share about the Igbo identity and culture.
ReplyDeleteIhu Chi - Shrine to the self.
''In the old days, when a young man gets to the first stages of manhood in Igbo land, and has asked his father for the authority to establish his own homestead, and once he has built his Ovu/Obu/Obi meeting house and his own living quarters, the eldest living male of his lineage (Di Opara Nna) carries out the ritual of planting of what we call his tree of life at the shrine in which he establishes an altar to his “indwelling Chi” i.e his spiritual self & cuts his “Ofo” which he keeps at his shrine.
Odinani (The #Igbo religion) believes that we are “gods” on an experiential journey through the earth. That is why Igbo men are forbidden to bow to anything. They use their right hands - their "Aka Ikenga" - for salutation.
A man is only forced to huru (bow) as a form of subjection and humiliation (Today, some Ndi Igbo bow due to the influences of cultures where bowing to authority is the norm - British, Yoruba & Hausa).
All Igbo men, therefore, hold an Ofo, which compels them to act with the highest moral authority in the land. Such a man is forbidden, while his ofo is in his goatskin bag to lie, or carry out any form of Aru (Abomination) which might weaken his Ofo, because the Ofo is also connected to his Chi.
And it is his Chi (created by the high God; Chineke) that guides him through life.
This is reflected in our names; Chinedu, Chidimma, Chika, Chizoba, Chioma, Chiamaka e.t.c. Your Ofo compels you to seek peace during disputes to avoid murder which is an abomination.''
I watched the video and the ooni raised both arms to hail Ebubedike before they proceeded to shake hands. He was obviously excited to see Pa Pete and the latter even went over to greet him bcos he respects him. The fact that some people expect a titled chief and grand father to prostrate for the ooni in a public function is an insult to his person.
ReplyDeletePete Edochie should have postrated? I don't understand,do people still have sense?
ReplyDeleteI swear, title aside
DeleteJoblessness be making people worry over silly things, mtcheew.
ReplyDeleteI am Yoruba and I don't see what Pete Edochie did that was wrong, we have different people with different cultures that should be respected.
ReplyDeleteWhy would a title igbo man bow to the kng, meanwhile there is a picture of Otedola giving the ki g hand shakes too but nobody is talking about that.......
Yes Femi Otedola can give this present Ooni a handshake cos he's an O.P.P king who doesn't see himself as a first class king a woman wrapper who doesn't respect his throne. Can Femi Otedola stretch his hand to shake the late Ooni of Ife Oba Okunade Sijuade Olubuse 11 Femi dares not cos Oba Okunade Sijuade is a king of dignity.
DeleteAbeg why are they even concerned with Pete Edochie, smally Kanayo O Kanayo sef shook the Oonis hands, abi na only see that one.
ReplyDeleteKanayo is well over 60 years. Which one is smally Kanayo again?
