 Nigerian students trapped in the Republic of Sudan have said their hope of early evacuation from the theatre of a fierce military confrontation has been dashed by the Federal Government. The conflict between the Sudanese armed forces and the paramilitary group, Rapid Support Force, has claimed over 400 lives, with about 3,500 injured.

. The Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, on Saturday, announced the temporary closure of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, due to the collapse of a floodlight mast. Dare disclosed this in a statement after inspecting the collapsed floodlight mast.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has said the commission is zeroing on those hiding under real estate to perpetrate money laundering and other financial crimes. EFCC lawyer, Chris Mishela, told journalists yesterday that many estates springing up in Abuja, Lagos and other parts of the country were believed to be the proceeds of fraud.

An unconfirmed number of persons were on Saturday evening trapped when a block of flat collapsed in the Sango Police Barracks, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. A source with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) who spoke on the condition of anonymity confirmed the incident.

Abia State governor-elect, Alex Otti has debunked the rumours making the rounds that he invited former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon to the state for his (Otti’s) inauguration. Otti has been under attack by the members and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who also whipped up sentiment about the role the former Head of State played in the death of late General Aguiyi Ironsi, a son of Abia.
