Chronicle Of Blog Visitor Narrative..

Hmmm....

STAND ALONE NARRATIVE
CONFUSED ABOUT THE WAY FORWARD

Good afternoon bvs. ''

Please, I need your advice. I am 40 and married with two children.
I have an OND qualification. My plan in life was to get HND, PGD, Masters and other certifications and get to the top of my career in the corporate world but I lost my dad after my OND and all my plans came crashing including that of my siblings-

we just managed to survive till I got married. Now I'm not fulfilled in life and I feel sad most times that despite my being at the tops of my class back then, I am like this, no improvement in my life at all.

I am into buying and selling now and I am not happy seeing my mates at the top.
Now I want to do something with my life. I have a passion for sewing, I draw patterns for my tailor to make my dresses, they come out very good. Should I register in a fashion school and start a career in sewing or I should go back to school for my HND?

Pls note that I want something that can help me make money too in life.
If I go for HND, will I get a good job at this age? my last employment was as a teacher , 5yrs ago.

If I go into fashion designing, I know I will make money, I am determined to use my writing and social media skills to market and network and draw customers with my designs. What do you advise, my able bvs?

If you live in Nigeria, please forget about office work at this age cos no one will employ you in a good organisation.
Start your own fashion business cos from what you typed up there, you are gifted and will make way if your designs are worn by the rich and famous...
Go to fashion school and start a career in sewing.

    1. This is exactly what I wanted to type. There's a fulfilment that comes with going back to get the degree you desires even when you have made all the money in the world.

  4. Yes, as Stella said, go to a good fashion school and learn everything there is to know about fashion, especially the different niches and business side of it - selling and marketing. This is key and will stand you out of the crowd of fashion designers littered everywhere. Specialise in an area that is underserved, like kiddies wears, plus size and the elderly. These three categories of people are heavily underserved.
Also note that the fashion industry is very broad, it's not just about sewing clothes alone, you can sell fabrics, accessories, equipments, etc
Most importantly, pray about it before you start, because what you think will give you fufillment may not be what you are going after, so pray, take out time to really pray and fast.

  6. Poster, just focus on sewing and make money. Thereafter get your HND certificate etc. The world all over needs people with skills and you have one already, enhance it and the sky will be your starting point. Good luck!

  7. No need going to fashion school. Look for one good tailor around you and register. After learning. You can go to fashion school for certification if you wish.

    1. Poster should start this way.
Depending where you reside, there are some polytechnic colleges that provide HND textile and fashion design courses. From there, the sky is open.

  8. Dear Poster, you can proceed for HND if have the money and also enroll for Tailoring class as well.
That desire to continue with your education is still in you.

  9. Focus on fashion. You'll make good money from it if you're very good

  10. Start learning on YouTube
Buy your machine and follow the classes online
If after a few classes you’re still into it then go and register

In general it’s advisable to try things on a smaller scale before investing lots of money in an effort

  11. If u truly have passion for tailoring and making money is ur utmost priority, poster pls start ur tailoring journey asap. But if u passionately want to earn that good cert and work in an organisation pls start immediately, do what u really want, u are 40 yes, but ur zeal and passion can land u a great job in a good company when u are done, don't giveup, if working is what u want go for it, believe it and u will get it, but my honest advice for u as someone who has worked and now doing business, business is the best especially ur own business, u have the luxury of time,u're in control, u're the boss etc. Whilst working fir someone can only get u money and more money at the expense of ur personal time, u will miss out on alot of things bcoz u are super engaged and engrossed with work, but with business naaah. So think well

  12. Go do proper investigation on both possibilities. What kind of work do you hope to pursue with HND? What area of fashion interests you? You don’t seem totally sure, but you feel unaccomplished and that is what you are trying to resolve, having a sense of accomplishment and excellence in your life that you see in the lives of others. Even the buy and selling you are doing now could become something large and successful if you did proper market exploration and fill gaps that no one else is. But it doesn’t seem like that interest s you, yet you already have knowledge on this. You talk about your social media skills, yet you have not pursued that as a possibility.

I am not convinced by your chronicle. I feel you are looking to get somewhere fast, perhaps feeling that time is running out and it is now or never. You have not given everything the proper thought and deep investigation that you need to before venturing into new territory. Do more investigation, talk to those in the industry, ask the questions nobody else is asking. Look at your current work and see if there is a hidden gold mine right there that you never considered. Sometimes what we are looking for is right in our grasp.

  13. Get a skill first. I got my first ever paid job at 46yrs, oil and gas. I was trained too. But all luck ain't the same.

  14. Fashion career will benefit you more.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I advise you do the two on part time basis.
School weekends and fashion school weekdays.

    ✌️

  16. Consider these steps:
    1. Go train as a tailor (likely part time because of your buying and selling business)
    2. Enrol in Poly for textile and fashion design course. Yaba Tech has a course like this. Make necessary enquiries. (You get two birds with one stone. You get more knowledge and you get the certificate you so crave).
    3. Enrol for your PGD in business administration (knowledge is relevant to running your buying and selling business plus fashion business)
    4. Enrol for a master degree program in business or any professional courses or special advance training as needed.
Along the line you may drop trading or the fashion design even. Or go for in-depth training. Or become a trainer / consultant.

  18. She should gather 20 million and move to canada you say? If the poster can easily raise 20 million do you think she'll be posting a chronicle like this?

Your response is devoid of empathy and is full of crassness. You shouldn't have bothered.

  19. Go for the fashion, those with plenty certificate are finding it very difficult to get a job. Go with your passion.

  20. Leave naija if possible to fulfill your dreams much faster. Naija factor will frustrate you. Someone said Canada. You shd look into this. You’ll be able to enroll for a better degree self that’s not HND and with less stress. And you’ll be able to do your tailoring business on the side. Think about it poster. Goodluck.
