I always find myself loving people who are going through issues. let me say PITY LOVE and always finds it difficult to leave so they wont think I left because of their condition and those same people, when they are in good condition, they may not think twice about me. The more I try, the more I find myself in another relationship based on Pity. How can I discipline my heart against PITY?
ReplyDeleteYou are showing how self aware you are and that is good. Please if you can afford good therapy go for it. You may be having self esteem issues that stems from childhood where you used people pleasing as a self defence mechanism to get peoples' attention and love. Hence you grew up to become codependent and a fixer, always trying to help people get better at a great cost to yourself. But we live in a dog eat dog world. You have to learn to build up your self esteem and confidence in yourself, love yourself, practice self care and saying no. Stop trying to do too much and fix other people when you are not God. Learn that you are lovable as a person without you necessarily having to exchange doing good deeds and self sacrificing always for love. You are worth it. Always remember that God loves you. Try to stay away from users once you spot them. Even if you can't afford therapy, read on codependency and self esteem and the dynamics in abusive relationships. Finally keep developing your self and doing the things you love. All the best!

DeleteI was almost like you till I realise I don't owe anyone pity at my detriment. I pity myself first. They are not dating you out of pity so why should you be the sacrificial lamb? Most of them that want to tie you down using pity tactics are wicked users and enemies of progress. They are leeches.
DeleteThis happened when An ex wanted to ruin my life to better his own life all because I dated him out of pity. He told me to reject my abroad scholarship and stay back in Nigeria with him. This was someone that told me he wished he had won a scholarship too. I refused and blocked him. From that time anyone that wanted me to date them out of pity and not because I was truly interested saw them as manipulative and ran.
Someone I dated out of pity that did not have any quality I wanted in a man. He was not happy I was about to succeed and kept telling me to reject the scholarship and be jobless in Nigeria.
I had a list and he did not tick anything on that list but I dated out of pity because he said he was jobless and no woman wanted to date him because he was broke and struggling. well, I did not know better and it was my first relationship then.
From the first day, I agreed to date that guy he would complain about my height and that he thought he was going to marry a lady 6ft and above. Mind you, I am not short at all but not up to that but for a lady I am tall enough.
Any small thing he would say "did you see so and so girlfriend, she is so tall".
I was ill and lost weight once and told him I am trying to regain my weight that wicked being told me to go and increase my height instead that I had misplaced priority. I had to avoid him before he gives me low-self esteem due to a quality I did not lack in the first place.
He would always complain I had everything he wanted on his list except the height. I laughed and blocked him.
Can you imagine? You had no quality I wanted on my list but I decided to date you out of pity. I, on the other hand, had all the qualities you seek except for just one thing and yet you could not overlook that ONE THING.
You better not ruin yourself or your life for those people and let them think what they like. You think the people you are dating out of pity send you. They are selfish and would never accept you or date you out of pity if the table was turned.
If you are too kind and you cannot do without pitying them then test them and tell them you are going through some issues in life and see how they will run from your life. Maybe then you can free yourself that way and you won't feel guilty.
I am just happy and grateful for the gift of life and also celebrating all women in advance for the mother's day. You will wax strong and the Lord will supply you all you need.

ReplyDeleteI know I shouldn’t have done this, but I am 83 years old and I was in the McDonald’s drive-through this morning and the young lady behind me leaned on her horn and started mouthing something because I was taking too long to place my order. So when I got to the first window
I paid for her order along with my own. The cashier must have told her what I'd done because as we moved up she leaned out her window and waved to me and mouthed "Thank you.", obviously embarrassed that I had repaid her rudeness with kindness.
When I got to the second window I showed them both receipts and took her food too. Now she has to go back to the end of the queue and start all over again,
