Its observations were contained in a preliminary report just released on Tuesday February 28, 2023.
Recall that after enough assurances from the electoral umpire, INEC and the Central Bank of Nigeria on easing off the cash swap policy, Nigerians took to the polls on Saturday, 25th February, 2023, to elect a substantive President and members of the 10th National Assembly.
As at the time of filing this report, the results of the elections across the country, were still being collated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials in Abuja.
But the foreign Observers, drawn from several countries in Europe and America with a common goal of monitoring the presidential election in Nigeria, released a preliminary report in which they described the Saturday’s poll as “peaceful” and “transparent”.
In their estimations, the presidential elections in Nigeria witnessed a high turnout of voters nationwide.
Describing it as one of the most transparent elections in the country’s history, with the significant candidates recording victories and defeats as against previous polls.
Giving their observations on the turnout of voters, the Observers Mission said, “the presidential elections witnessed a comparatively large turnout of voters in the various geopolitical zones when compared to recent General Elections in the country.
“But the South West and South East Zones recorded the highest number of voters turnout, with eligible voters demonstrating an uncommon level of patience to exercise their franchise.
“INEC did deploy both sensitive and non-sensitive materials to voting points on time, even though it recorded some delays in some areas, which however did not deter voters from performing their civic duties,” the report added.
Giving its observations on vote buying, which was becoming a trend in previous polls, the foreign Mission observed that, the Saturdays polls recorded minimal incidences across the country.
It adduced this to Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) which took a random visit to polling units unannounced to arrest anyone involved in such acts.
According to the observers, the country’s recent redesign of its currency, the naira reduced vote buying to the barest minimum.
Citing experiences in Nigeria’s 2015 and 2019 General Elections, the foreign observers submitted that social media platforms were deployed across political parties in a manner that could have potentially undermined votes, a situation that almost became worrisome on the part of supporters of candidates whose parties were not winning the votes.
Commenting further, it said such supporters took to social media to announce their candidates as being in early leads based on the announcement of results from few dozen of polling units. This situation significantly contributed to the allegations of vote manipulation that almost gained traction in the mainstream”.
Among those present at the Statement Hotel, Central Area, Abuja for Tuesday’s briefing include: Messrs Rudolf Elmendorp, Stuart Young, David Furnad, Stuart Dyer, Francois DeRobaix and Jeffrey Fry; amongst other supporting and technical members

Them sef don chop bribe. You think say the west want obi to win? Them dey benefit from the deplorable state of Nigeria.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you even see Obi as? What threat is he to the west? Is it not the same west he took Anambra’s money to invest? Nonsense rant here and there. Even Atiku had more votes than him.
DeleteThis is Obi's first outing and look at his achievement , you are comparing Obi with ATIKU that is a serial Presidential candidate?
DeleteSaint Obi donated 50k USD of Anambra money to his love child for her wedding but anyone who considers his fellow thieves as a candidate is unclean. I'm keep saying it: Obidients cost Obi this election. Please let us recover from Buharideens in peace.
DeleteLies! Lies!! And more Lies!!!
ReplyDeleteThe most freest and fairest election in Nigeria since the return of democracy.
ReplyDeleteA election which
Elrufai Couldn’t Deliver Kaduna
Ganduje Couldn’t Deliver Kano
Tinubu Couldn’t Deliver Lagos
Buhari Couldn’t Deliver Katsina
Lalong Couldn’t Deliver Plateau and also lost senatorial bid.
One stranger who nobody knows his papa defeated Banky W in Eti Osa

DeleteYou need to drink some cold water. Your comments are usually hate filled and angry. In fact you must be dealing with a lot of stuff
DeleteEesah please some people here, they are still in severe pain.
DeleteYou think whites or foreigners will leave their country and come save you? People heavily benefitting from Africans blessings; oil, mineral resources etc will help you liberate your country when they are the custodian of the anarchy. I hear
ReplyDeleteElection was not held in upto 80% of the Local Government Area of Ohaji/Egbema as a whole and other local government in Imo state alike.
ReplyDeletePeople of Ohaji came out to cast their votes but inec staff never came to conduct the election, yet they gathered figures that they cannot give account of.
I have always known that anytime there is an issue like this; the solution has always been to ensure election is conducted in those problem areas before the final result is announced because it is their right to vote. They should ensure that votes are cast in those areas. I have not even complained of the videos that showed obvious rigging of the election. Why are the not addressing these issues raised. I thought that Nigeria belongs to all of us but with the look of things the country belings to the most powerful
Ah ah, even the south east that Obi cleared, you are now contesting?? Lord of mercy!!
DeleteMtcheeew
ReplyDeleteIt's well
ReplyDeleteYou're just a shameless woman. You didn't read the part where European observers and AU observers said the elections were not transparent? Enjoy the blood money you collected from APC, it will judge you.
ReplyDeleteSide eyes, cause it sure feels that way.
DeleteExactly! I don't understand this her report, it's totally different from the report given by foreign observers that INEC lacked transparency.
DeleteAs in!!

Sis, you have taken me back to my days of history in lasu π. Thank you for this. A lot of people don’t know shiiiii about the real politics. They have knowledge on thuggish politics which they have gradually come to impose on us
DeleteThis same West developed Obi and his family's fortune then he also chose to invest the bulk of of his assets in the same West.
DeleteBe calming down.
The people agreeing with you and the lecturers that exculpate Africans from responsibility for their bad decisions are all looking to move to that same West. No let pant wear you.
Why will he invest in an economy that doesn’t thrive? Did you bother to think your comment through before dumping it as an attack?
DeleteI have the book, actually used during my university days in philosophy of education. But truth be told, Asia was also colonized but they aren't behaving like Africans

Sluttychic.
You will be surprised how Tinubu will turn Nigeria around, the man is a born leader. Stop sulking because Obi did not win
ReplyDeleteMere man have proposed, God will surely dispose. Lets all wait and see.
ReplyDeleteWesterners rest abeg,Obi is no saint abeg, stop this!!
ReplyDeleteSome of you are just silly. The reason why Nigerian youths came out for Obi is not because he is a saint. It is to make a statement to the political class that if you do anyhow, you will see anyhow. But now you have given the presidency to yet another one on a platter of gold. Ye all deserve the kind of leaders you have! I have no pity for you anymore.
DeleteBut your point doesn't add up. If this guy is the save as them (Pandora papers, $50k of state money to his daughter for marriage, investing state money in his businesses etc,) it's a case of potato potato. O ga same.
DeleteHe told you guys to come with evidence and he would stop campaigning. Did you do it? Not even APC or PDP could come up with any evidence to show that Obi was very corrupt. You all deserve all leaders! Enjoy it while it last!
DeleteWe never said PO is a saint. No man is perfect except God. But amongst the three of them , he's far far better and more accountable.
DeleteI'm not bothered because I'm covered.
I meant "easterners",not westerners please, like anon 12:59 rightly said,he has a whole bucket of worms beneath that fake humility that anyone with a good head on their shoulders will smell from a mile away,or is it his market woman voice that deceives you guys?.He was the only one caught in the pandora papers, didn't pay doctors in the state for 13months which led to a 13months strike. Used ecological funds from the same west you guys are telling to shift that they have collected bribe ,just like one efulefu up there is accusing Stella of;and never fixes the gullies, should I talk about his substandard roads or his investment of state funds in his "private" business?,one of the biggest importer of foreign goods suddenly talking about home grown economy, jokes too faded!.used 50k dollars from state funds for his out of wedlock daughter's marriage?.didnt build a single school while he was governor, his the atrocities of SARS akwuzu since Nwafor was/is his boy why was he named "Mr shoot at sight/the butcher of Akwuzu. Obi isnt a saint, tell yourselves the truth!!.
Delete16:06, tender receipts to back up this claim or remain forever searching for black goat at night. Na π¦ way be Saint……. Shanty Town scripted him well π€£
